Hi,

I had been trawling through various forums and read about the EGR on the BKC engine being prone to clogging with crap, so i took all the pipe work off and took the motorised flap off and cleaned it all. I noticed that there was a fair bit of oil lying around in the pipe work is this common and what can cause it?

Previously my emision control light had come on and i checked on vag-com and it mentioned about this flap voltage being out, since cleaning i have not had the light come back on any ideas?

Cheers
Mark

All the gunge in the pipe is clogging up and reducing the volume of the pipe, increasing the presssure. This pressure then makes the valve exceed the tolerances, hence the warning light. Cleaning it has returned the correct values and the light goes out. Bad cases of a blocked or choked EGR system result in the engine cutting out with a bang at about 3000rpm and bad or slow acceleration.
As for the oil, clean it up as much as you can, then forget about it.
This is not just a problem for your engine code, but most diesels.

Egr valves on 1.9 and 2.0 A3's have been know for the flap in the valve coming of the control rod in the motor, this puts eml light on as well
