Tonbridge Audi/ Audi Owners Club Open Day
Events

The Audi Owners Club is holding an open day at Tonbridge Audi in Kent on the 18th September 2010.

It is an open invite to anyone who owns an Audi, new, old, slow, fast, standard, original, clapt out through to concourse. It really doesn't matter..

Tonbridge Audi are making their service team available, free of charge, for diagnostics, health checks and general inspections. If you would like your car looked over by an Audi Technician or have some fault codes pulled, please let me know in advance so that I can book a time slot for you and issue you a VIP pass. There will be a concours section which is limited to 12 cars I’m afraid due to available space, so if you would like to put your car forward, again let me know in advance.

There will be specialist's that Audi use in the way of a bodywork technicians, interior etc, they will be on hand for advice and helpful tips.

There will be opportunities for VIP pass holders to take their cars out on the local test routes that Tonbridge Audi use for their prospective customers. Some of these routes can be great fun as they have been selected to get the best enjoyment out of the higher end cars. A disclaimer will need to be signed by the driver before you go out. The number of cars per cruise will be limited too for safety reasons but please remember that these will still be the queens highway‘s, you’ll be out with fellow enthusiast’s in their pride and joy so the cruise should not be treated as a race.

I will need to know numbers in advance, including any passengers, so that we can get the passes and everything else organised.

Looking forward to meeting you and your Audi,

Geoff Black

AOC South East Regional Host

Win! The chance to wave the chequered flag at Silverstone

The 2010 Le Mans Series champions will be crowned at the series finale at Silverstone on September 10-12 – and you could be there to wave the chequered flag.

The unique money-cant buy opportunity is on offer to anyone buying tickets for the Autosport 1000Km of Silverstone between June 14 and July 31 2010.

Every ticket purchased from the day after the  blue-riband Le Mans 24 Hours will be automatically entered into a free draw for the chance to watch the Silverstone race along side top LMP1 squad, Audi Sport Team Joest, and wave the chequered flag as the winning car crosses the finish line.

With its blend of fast cars, glamorous women and vibrant party atmosphere, the climax of the action-packed series will see star names, such as Nigel Mansell, Allan McNish, Giancarlo Fisichella and Nicolas Minassian do battle.

Audi Sport Team Joest lead driver, Allan McNish, said: “The Silverstone race is obviously very important to me as a British driver. I haven’t raced there since winning the corresponding race in 2008.

“It’s the final round of this year’s Le Mans Series and, having won the opening race and placing third in the second, we’re likely to be well-placed in the Championship standings despite not contesting some of the other races.

“The additional importance of this year’s Silverstone race is that it’s the opening round of the inaugural ‘Le Mans Intercontinental Cup’, which also features the Petit Le Mans race at Road Atlanta (USA) and an event on the Asian continent in November – both races which I’ll be contesting, so I’ll be looking for a points haul on ‘home’ soil.”

Debut win for R15 Plus
Audi in Motorsport

Allan McNish scored a magnificent début victory for Audi with its latest diesel-engined sportscar in the opening round of the Le Mans Series at Paul Ricard in France today (Sunday 11 Apr).

McNish started his new Audi R15 TDI “Plus” from the front row of the 40-car grid after co-driver Dindo Capello had set the second fastest qualifying time the previous day but stormed in to the lead on the third lap. By mid-distance in the eight-hour race the 40- year-old Scotsman, back behind the wheel after a solid stint by Capello, had extended the lead to a two-lap advantage over the second-placed Aston Martin around the fast, sweeping 3.6-mile track. Having taken the lead after four minutes, the McNish/Capello “factory” Audi was never headed again at the former French Grand Prix circuit– their 5.5-litre twin-turbo diesel engined Audi eventually finishing five-laps, 18-miles ahead of the second-placed Aston Martin having completed 957-miles at an average speed of 119.49mph in a completely trouble-free run.

Capello set the race’s fastest lap (1m 42.541s, 126.33mph) with 90mins remaining. The pole-position starting factory-assisted Oreca Peugeot lost 18mins in the pits with a problem in the opening hour and finished fourth – eight-laps behind the victorious Audi.

“It’s fantastic to give the new R15 ‘Plus’ its first victory in its first race which follows the Audi tradition of début race wins like we achieved with the R8, R10 TDI and R15 TDI – even if this one is a little unexpected – and not many manufacturers can claim this honour,” commented an elated McNish. “It’s been a perfect race because we got the victory and also it was a perfect test for the engineers going towards Le Mans.”

Just 37 days after the “roll-out” of the R15 “Plus”, the Paul Ricard race at Le Castellet was a “test” under race conditions marking the next phase of its development programme. After aerodynamic tests at Homestead (Florida), a multi-day endurance test at Sebring (Florida) and tyre tests at Monza (Italy), Audi Sport Team Joest used the Ricard LMS race to begin the detailed race-setup work on the updated LMP1 sports-prototype.

Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich (Head of Audi Motorsport): "It is impressive that Audi Sport has developed a prototype for a fourth consecutive time which was able to win its début race: after the R8, the R10 and the R15 now the R15 plus. Of course we are very happy that the R15 plus has won the Le Castellet 8 Hours in its test entry. “But even more important is the fact that the car is already very fast and reliable. We did not have the slightest technical problem here and without the rain shower in the end we would have completed the whole distance without any unscheduled pit-stop. This success is a small milestone on the way to Le Mans and a first reward for the hard work of the previous weeks and months. But we know very well that there is still plenty of work to do until Le Mans.”

Dumfries-born McNish and the Audi team continue its Le Mans 24 Hour race (12-13 Jun) preparations with a full three-car “dress rehearsal” in a 1,000km race at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), the second round of the LMS on 9 May.

Tom Kristensen partners McNish and Capello at Le Mans. The Dane tore the heel tendon in his left leg in January and decided to concentrate on his forthcoming testing commitments rather than contest the Ricard race.
