I thought you was leaving the interior out as it would be a track day car?

Still at least progress is good and I take it that the cars now at the motor club? Will you be getting your spare room back sometime soon Laughing

nothing, just need to replace the gearbox and the steering rack and re-locate the battery so figured taking the engine out was the easiest option..... may give it a clean, maybe some paint ect....

Good start to the day, still not 100% sure about security etc down there against chav's, you should try rob the cover thats on the bmw near there, chuck some tarpaulin over it then it will be sorted.

Whats next? get it up in the air and the engine removed?

Thought i'd post an update on this one, unfortunately my final year project has been taking up almost all of my time so the quattro has been taking a back seat for a while but on sunday i managed to get down to the garage and do some work, the rear subframe i managed to get off not long after i took it down there so i moved from under the car and separated it into its separate parts, down to hubs, driveshafts, diff. then burnt out the subframe bushes ready for the nice new ali ones Very Happy i also managed to take out the battery tray, not as difficult as it looks actually. so a reasonably productive day.
today i managed to spend the afternoon down there too and got the engine and gearbox out so its all well on the way now, only things left on the bottom of the car are handbrake cables, fuel lines and brake lines so just waiting for some cash so i can buy some POR 15 and then its time to start bolting things back on Cool

in the mean time there is plenty to do in the engine bay and inside, need to replace the steering rack and do my vacuum assist conversion, then inside its dash out, carpet out, remove air-con heaters and controls, fit black carpet then put it all back together....

on a side note, for the vacuum assist i picked up a pipe that was lying about my mates house from his old octavia tdi, it fits PERFECTLY into the 20v intake mani and has perfect angles and length to worm its way to the assist bit!! Bonus!! Very Happy

well, i have had a change of heart the last few days and decided to to the 20v turbo route so bagged myself a 3B this morning Very Happy its got a ported and polished head, unknown cams, stainless exhaust mani and when using a manual boost controller was running well over 300 so i'm told. that went off the 1.5 bar boost gauge tho Confused i'll be running stock n75 tho so back down to whatever the stock is lol. plan is to get it in and running first, then start modding. first is to get rid of the stainless manifold as it puts the turbo at an 'off' angle so the airbox has to go. the downpipe has also been chopped up and rewelded quite a few times so dont suppose its terribly good flowing.

after market intercooler also with 7a cross member so i think rs2 intercooler is the next port of call. basically taking it back to stock parts, but from rs2.

also now my uni course is finnished i have a week off to get some work done, however i got a call on friday about a possible job and ringing back on monday so may be going straight to work lol.

well i have had a very porductive few days, went from having no suspension/drivetrain/brakes or engine to having everything except a clutch line (5 speed and 6 speed are a different shape, just havn't got round to bending it), a propshaft (just haven't done it yet), and the front driveshafts. the front driveshafts have actually been a real issue as the garage that pressed the new front bearings in managed to trash the splines on the hub Evil or Very Mad but its back on its wheels and am pleased to report that the DSY box mates to a 7a with no mods to the bell housing, and 90% if not all the bolts line up! only issue is with the linkage as the DSY differs from the S2 box but only needs a spacer for 1 of the bolts. there is slight interfereance with the stainless exhaust but no biggy.
the best bit is that the avant handbrakes fit on Very Happy there is some extra cable tho, and unless you buy new brake lines then the calipers need to be fitted on opposite sides which makes bleeding them annoying as they must be off the car. the other issue is that the distance between the hanbrake lever and the cable mounts is longer on a coupe, this means that the handbrake is basically constantly engaged Sad but i expect that a 'spacer' of sorts can solve this very easily. i will try and get some of these made up.
you may be wondering why all the effort since the avant brakes are virtually identical.....well yes, they are but the avant brakes share the same handbrake mechanism as the S4 brakes do so i will be fitting the 300mm rear conversion in due course without needing to grind the discs down to 280mm Very Happy Very Happy

the car is being trailord down to its new home tomorrow and will hopefully be back on the road as soon as i can afford insurance....which may be a while as i currently dont have a job lol
