Hi all,

Had a 89 2.2e coupe a few years back and want that driving pleasure back!

Going to check out a 94 V6 cab, 134k on the clock with lots of history up for a grand. Was looking for some pointers on what to look for and check. Travelling a fair way and dont want to make a purchase on impulse (easily done).

Any advice welcome, cheers.[/size][/b]

General condition and that everything electrical works .

Pay attention to rocker covers leaking. Coolant should be clean and no mayo like stuff about. Check she quickly comes upto temp and stays bang on with nearly zero fluctuation. Make sure the cambelt and water pump are fairly recent with invoice to back it up( not mateys word) if it hasn't then budget 500 quid to fix.

Phone the garage to check the invoice is kosher as well. Any muppet could make one on the laptop and print. Some snide s..h..I..t..h..e..a..d..s. out there.
May only be a grand on majors wages but it's the principal. Wink

Not wanting to p*ss on your fireworks here but dont expect too much for a grand. I know some people do pick up the odd bargin once in a while, but that is not the norm.
£2K could get you a younger exmple with all the toys and a decent history. And that is just what my car is, yet I spent £900 on it last year and £500 so far this year. Plus I need a new set of 17 inch boots at £400 !
Im doing my best to stay on top of the maintenance and take care of all the little jobs that need doing as these cars get older.
There will be a lot of neglected cars out there, because no one want's to spend more fixing a car than it worth. If its solid but not perfect, then its a good summer fun car and you can scrap if you get hit with a big repair bill.
Buy with your eyes open Wink

Thanks for the heads up Pcn1.

Are there any parts in particular to look out for that may be a money pit? I work for a motor factors and have connections at Audi so the basics shouldn't be a problem....

From previous posts on here, the one to watch is the wiring looms for the electric roof, if they pop they are expensive and difficult to repair, other than that its an Audi they are reliable as your previous 2.8 cabriolet will have proved, but the 4 Ring Circus that some call dealerships are expensive..........

Im not aware of any achilles heal with these cars, its just all the little odd jobs start to add up!
I fixed my boot looms for £6 worth of cable and a few hours easy work soldering them in.
Just think your regular disc's and pads, tyres, cambelt water pump change if needed etc. A/C re-gas at £50.
LIke I say if its a tidy car, that your happy to just "drive it" then great. If like me you want to keep it as best you can, then you start spending like on any old classic ! Laughing
Ive just spent 2 hours cleaning my leather seats, still to apply the conditioner, and might take it to a leather guy to sort out the drivers bolster thats starting to wear through. The fun never stops Rolling Eyes
