Hmm, interesting. That would also mean the bracket for the S2 Saloon would be for the wrong side.

Right, who's got an S2 Avant that they are breaking then? Very Happy

Don't follow matey? which bracket?
If you mean the battery tray, the sedans is on the same side as the avants, left or right hand drive makes no odds, they were all on our passenger side (nearside) in the boot.
They were probably a slightly different shape due to the way they were welded in, but both definitely in the rear passenger side boot.

Jase..

Ah, I get you.

Anyone got a photo of their avant battery location, just so I can see what or where the welds are.

Also would there be a different trim piece or is it a matter of putting the old trim back? I remember the avant having a quick release flap

The FA, although doesn't show a picture of the flap, lists the left trim (nearside) as being NLA Sad for all models.

There doesn't seem to be much room in there. And where would the trim go?

Cheers guys.

@ Jas - Whats the part number for that panel? Never seen it before, also where is the bracket the battery sits on?

@ Si - I have been in talks with him but it's fully colour coded so not a massive incentive as instead of having it painted pearl I will have to strip the bottom. I am still waiting for him to confirm stuff with me.

I realise this is a bodge, but couls a bettery tray not be lifted from something else and fabricated. Fromw what I recall of the one in the avant, and the orion, they are similar sized, and having welded one back into the orion twice, I know they are to be had for about £15 tops. Surer threr are others availble at a body panel specialist.

Yah, we have looked into using the plate from an Avant.

On another note I was speaking with Jase and wondered how strong the box is in the V6 2.6. Would it be able to handle S2 power? or any more? or would it just be easier to replace the box?

This is not a now job but I have to start planning. Also do most of the VAG range just bolt up or do I need adapter plates?

All advice welcome Very Happy

The bolt pattern afaik is the same across all the audi range hence why s2 owners can bolt up 1.8t engines.

the box should handle the power fine but it will be slightly up the range at say 80/90 if you get what I mean, the ratios are slightly different.

Might be worthwhile getting a cheap s2 box from somewhere, depends if you want a 5 speed or 6 speed for authenticity.

My s2 box might be spare soon as I might be going for a 6 speed at some point soon.

Cheers guys.

Gav - that would be great, just to see how it performs. I actually prefer the 5 speed over the 6. Feels a lot firmer if that makes sense.

Cool, I'm in no rush as this is a plan for next year anyway. Need to locate an ABY lump, loom, ECU etc..... I may look at the 6 Speed but I was lead to believe it is more than just a swap.

OK I now have the battery tray and strap in my possession. Do I need the long flat panel to attach it to the car? What about the cabling? Does this run down the passenger side sill? Do I need to buy + & - cables from Audi? or are they standard?
How long are they?

In answer to your bracket wanted post mate.

Thinking back (hell it seems a long time ago us at the farm messing with the cars) Paul had the drawings made up from the Seat brackets that you guys had played around with for Wavey Davey.
IIRC the original had had too much removed from the caliper to bracket mounting face, so that when ours were made, the caliper sat to far down the disc. We had to get a 4mm spacer made up to take up the difference.
So that means the drawing isn't correct in a few of it's dimensions.

As you are doing the S2 saloon rep, you'll be fitting the 16" Avus yes?
In that case, the 314mm discs are the right size, 324mm discs are a bit to big.
So, (I'm getting there) when you either borrow (to get a drawing and copy made) or buy the bracket from Mike, you'll need 8mm removing from the caliper to bracket mounting face and 4mm removing from the bracket to hub face for it to be dimensionally correct.

Jase..

I had to replace the Ur battery cable from under the rear seat down to the starter motor and I bought cable from here:

http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/

I wouldn't go to Audi. Think they wanted £87 for the starter motor loom

The bracket is being sent out tomorrow.

Ah OK. Yes to the Avus (once I've located a set) as it needs to look right. I would put some 5 x 130's splits on but that will be way in the future due to cost.

Mike has sent me the bracket * cheers Mike * so I will have to check which side is which Rolling Eyes to make sure I don't take the 8mm and 4mm of the wrong sides Laughing

I may have to buy/ borrow as S2 Leg to bolt it all up to off the car.

Thanks for the link Mike, that will become useful. I agree with keeping it OE but £80+ for a piece of cable?!?! Shock

Shows you which sides Wink
(note, those in the picture have been machined ready for fitting, IIRC they were Paulgo's)

Red arrow = 4mm
Blue arrow = 8mm

Once you got them machined, they site the caliper perfectly on a 314mm x 30mm A8 disc.
Go for either Zimmerman or Bosch discs from GSF, avoid the Brembo discs, they are a bit pants.
