I thought there was a 'fixed' cambelt pulley (i.e. not adjustable) and the waterpump had elongated holes to allow for tensioning the belt?

Is there anything actually wrong with the existing one, or were you just changing it as a precaution? Sounds like a risk worth taking at that price

had a look on manual and it says there is a tensioner and to use that as to tension belt, the audi manual say says turn hex to 25nm then tighten bolts to 10 nm, guessing this is nut in the middle of the pic with arrow? it says this
‒ → Tension toothed belt; to do so, apply 25 Nm at hexagon and turn tensioner clockwise, hold in position and tighten bolts -arrows- to 10 Nm.
‒ Give crankshaft two turns in direction of engine rotation and check whether camshaft and crankshaft marks coincide with their reference points.
‒ Check tension of toothed belt using VW 210.
‒ Scale reading: 14 ... 14.5
‒ Correct setting if necessary.

replacement water pump is about £30 so would be discounted if your partner is a machanic
you might as well change it while its all apart and dont cut corners with the tentioner as its no worth the grief if it fails

I hope it lasts. Sometimes you get what you pay for.
I'd probably prefer to fit genuine parts or not replace it at all

yeh this came from a local motor factors!! and it is an INA part which which was cross referenced by GSF!!! There is no way that I could afford a genuine part at this time and it needs doing!! If need be I'll go for a genuine part at a later date!! I thought it was a mistake with pricing because I could get the same part made by the same company from another factors for £70

INA parts are as good as OEM, you have nothing to worry about. I always laugh when people give it the "genuine or nothing at all" line. If the genuine parts were that good, you wouldn't be having to replace them. Water pumps, coolant temp sensors, belt hydraulic tensioners (piston type), MAF meters etc to name a few.
Some ebay parts are very poor, anything you get from a reputable motorfactor will be fine. They're not going to stake their reputation on supplying garbage.

Ina parts are OEM for a lot of manufacturers, including some VAG stuff.
There's plenty of tat out there sold by motor factors too. I avoid Quinton Hazell, PowerTrain and others like the plague.
