Just a small stupid question now Embarassed

What oil do you guys recommend for the 2.2 turbo engine? I'm a mechanic on Jags for a living and would use a 10w/40 on this age of engine usually, but being a turbo car a synthetic 10w/40 obviously.

Sound about right?

Over here I'm a bit limited as to what oils I can buy (complete lack of).
I use Shell Helix Plus 10w 40
http://www.shell.co.uk/home/content/gbr/products_services/on_the_road/oils_lubricants/helix/shell_helix_tpkg/product_range_classic/helix_plus/

Gets changed every 6 months along with an OEM oil filter regardless of mileage

Silkolene Pro S 10w50 from www.Opieoils.co.uk is as good as it gets. Sign up for extra discount.

I always use Fuchs Titan 10w40 for some reason, always seems a good oil.

I have always used the Shell Helix for some reason as well and no problems to report.

How many miles has the car done?
Anything over 150K, a semi synthetic may be 'too thin' even at 10W/40.
If I put a 10W/40 in my 2.2 turbo, it would drink a litre every 1000 miles, but with 10W/40 mineral (but a good API) then it uses nothing (much).

Bear in mind that oil technology has increased remarkably over the decade, and if the car you are referring to is a 1995 2.2, then the API grade will probably be SG or SH, but even a Halfords cheap oil will now be superior and probably a SJ...

Don't you love Oil Marketing?

Try

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_181413_categoryId_165581_langId_-1?cm_vc=IOV4PLPZ1

They are having an offer on this oil. Seems good enough. API SL will beat any 1995 engine requirements.

Just searched this thread again, oil change time again! My S6 uses a bit of oil these days so wondering what to put in. I think I have been using oil that is too thin. Looking at the plugs it is not using any via the cylinders so maybe the turbo is taking a bit. Must sort that small cam cover leak too!!!!
