Audi A6 C4 TDI, specifically, Cambelt job, Retro fit Cruise on this model and anything really including Vag Com related, advice & help.

Specific questions are better posted in the A6 / 100 C4 forum where replies may help others browsing there.

I currently don't have premises, but will hope to in the coming summer, (and will also be breaking the odd car), so I'm limited to jobs I can take on, but can and have done cambelt & other jobs in a visit me or mobile service depending on distance from my location S42 5TT.

Website is not live yet but it will be idua.co.uk, (just audi backwards so easy to remember)

Cool

Poll added so all the "specialists" follow the same format; I'll tweak this more later when I get chance.

Take a look at the one done for Cotswold Vehicle Services, I've added a link to his signature so other users and possible customers can see what others think of service, etc. Wink

I'll remove this post once you've seen it/ tweaks done (it will not "upset" the thread if any replies are made Wink )

I am VERY happy to recommend Bladerunner - probably the most impressive and meticulous mechanic I have seen work.

The workshop also has DIY facilites for instance for £10 per hour (no vat) you can rent a new two post lift and work on your own car, tools and help advice on hand..

Have Vag Com, Vag Tacho, Snap-on Modis (10.4 software), boroscope service and much more

I'm also about to break a 1996 Audi A6 TDI Quattro Avant 6 speed AEL soon
and in the process of developing decat swap outs on a drive in basis initially for the above quattro model and the 2wd version (AAT / AEL)

Currently breaking.... opps I mean working on 'Mike O's car while he is riding around Europe in a hells angels gang Laughing Laughing Wink

Managed to get up and see Mr Bladerunner with a good list of jobs for a days work:

Check current health of my A6 2.5TDi quattro
Decat exhaust and inspect condition of cat once removed
Retro fit cruise control
Fit with chips
Fit PP502 injector nozzles

Firstly I chose to see Mr Bladerunner as he is well known for being an expert on these cars and has already been recommended to me.
The journey was a long one for me but I was sure it would be well worth the 420 mile round trip. I set off early and arrived at just off J29 on the M1 around 9:00.

First thing I noticed was Mr Bladerunner’s very very nice A6 2.5TDi which I spent much time admiring whilst he was busy on mine. It is in excellent condition and very very neat and tidy. Never knew that the S6 had wider front wings until I saw My Bladerunners! Very nice indeed! I wish my paintwork and bodywork was as nice. Loved the exhaust pipe mod on the car!

Anyhoo, off to work on mine and the first thing to check was that my mine was in good order. Seems everything was in order and nothing much to note other than a few alarm codes and a central locking fault which wasn’t too surprising.

Mr Bladerunner started with the decat pipe, as mine is a quattro it has two small cats as the downpipe splits into two. The bolts were pretty much rusted on and there was a lot of work involved in removing the cats. Eventually they came off and as predicted (by Mr Bladerunner) the left side cat was pretty much blocked and the right side cat was not too bad but still pretty sooty.

New decat pipe went on and we went out to test the results. There was a nice black cloud as the exhaust pipes dislodged stuck deposits luckily the VOSA van was in front of us and not behind!! (Seriously!) It was immediately apparent that performance was up and pickup was better with the car getting a move on from lower down the rev range.

Mr Bladerunner took some logs on the computer and it seems the car is running well with good boost allround.

The next job up was the cruise control and the chips. As the ECU was coming out for the cruise control harness it made sense to drop the chips in.

There is a full write up of the retro fit cruise control and Mr Bladerunner is clearly an expert in fitting this and once fitted it is as though it has always been there from the factory as it is done using original parts and hooking into the ECU that has the necessary controls to operate.
I was thoroughly impressed with Mr Bladerunners approach to this (and everything else) in that he worked very neatly and methodically checking everything as he went. Top job allround.

Out for another test drive to test the cruise and the chips again the car is up in the performance stakes is a lot more eager and keen to get moving. The cruise is simply ace and a really good smooth system that I will be using a lot.

Final job is the injectors and we are a bit into the unknown as to the effect of these. The injectors are Bozio PP502’s basically bigger nozzles and Mr Bladerunner fitted them again utterly professionally and with care and attention to detail, he even fixed my bonnet catch whilst doing it!
The car took a little time to fire up and we adjusted the IQ settings as much as we could to balance out injector shudder from the bigger nozzles and went for a test drive.

I think we both commented at the same time that it now ‘goes like a train’ and it certainly does. It is really eager now and pulls very hard past the redline. The car is a really nice drive now and picks up from as little as 1,100rpm with it getting going properly from about 1,600rpm. In fact you can get a wriggle on without going past 3,000rpm.

I am doing some more testing on the performance and will be posting up some comparision videos soon to prove it is not a placebo – this thing really goes now.

There remains a little bit of injector shudder which I experienced in 6th gear a few times and at idle, but very little. I need to tweak the IQ setting and am investigating the hammer mod. It isn’t far out so am hopeful I can do the final tweak to get it perfect, it is bloody good now though.

Overall I am extremely pleased with the enhancements and must give a big thankyou to Mr Bladerunner who is excellent, thoroughly professional and very reasonably priced. It was well worth the trip and will be hoping that I can get some more work done. Mr Bladerunner even found a spare engine cover to replace my broken one!

Mr Bladerunner worked very hard from 9 in the morning until past 7 in the evening! Mr Bladerunner checked the condition of my cambelt and gave me many helpful hints and tips which I will be following up on.
It is worth the trip just to have a gawk at his A6!

Many thanks and a big thumbs up and recommendation from me, I hope to be back for some more!

Just want to and a piece to say how happy I was with the help and advice Mr BladeRunner gave when I went up to see him.

I arrived with a very sick A6 2.5tdi and he started straight away on it and found the faults. He did all the faults and a gearbox swap in one day. Shocked

He also did his famous cruise control and de cat, Which I would say is a must for any one as it left me with a very big smile all the way home. Cool

All in all I was there for about 14 hours and the 5 hour round trip made it a very long day but I will be doing it again to see this man as he was very helpful and the best mechanic I have seen since leaving the Army.

so if you own an audi especaily a C4 2.5tdi this is your master of any think you need doing so give him a pm and try the cruise and de cat and you will be amazed. Very Happy

Thanks Jon

Thanks for the generous feedback chaps Cool, and to be honest I wasn't firing on all cylinders when sandraj719 came up as I'd had a long previous day with Duffelcoat's quattro Wink

anyhow we got just about everything done, one or two more jobs for the next visit including re-adusjusting the gear linkage to make reverse a little easier for sandraj719's better half Laughing

Thanks for all your Help Via the forum, posting tools and parts, telephone calls, giving up your own time to help me out, you have been a lifesaver!!

The decat pipe has helped the engine run a lot nicer, a worthy Modification for these cars. And next time i'm up your way I might give in and have cruise control fitted..

Now for some Chips I think....

Took the A6 up to Jonathans place last week for a cambelt change.

Very impressed with Jon's knowledge, thoroughness and huge tool kit. His hourly rate is very competitive too.

If you have a C4 A6 then this is 'the' place to send your car and mine will be heading back there in future in the confidence that it'll be in the best hands around.

Cheers

David

I dropped my car (1995 C4 AAT AVANT) of at Jonathan's last weekend with a very large bag of Audi suspension bushes, a WEITEC 40/40 suspension kit, AEL ECU and Injectors, spinks chips and a long list of jobs to do.

I picked it up today, 1 week later. What can I say, Jon is an absolute LEGEND Very Happy . In the space of a week he has transformed my car (circa 270,000miles). The following details the work done

1. Replaced all bushes on the rear suspension, with the rear beam still on the car. This proved to be a very tricky operation involving drills, hack saws and a welder!!!! Had I tried this at home myself, the car would now be residing in my local scrap yard!

2. Replaced the front CV boots. the OS joint caused some issues as it wouldn't slide of the shaft, this caused a fair bit of work, fortunatley Jon had a spare complete drive shaft to use as a replacement.

3. Fit WEITEC 40/40 suspension kit. Had I commissioned a local garage to do this I very much doubt I would now have a sweet handling and looking car. Although the kit itself is great quality Jon had to replace a number of ancillary parts that another garage would probably have left. The main one being the rubber/metal shock boot seat on the front struts. Had this not been replaced my nice new shocks would have been knackered in no time. A perfect example of Jon's excellant eye for detail and professionalism. Jon also replace the front ARB bushes and front engine mount

3. Investigate why my rear axle sits offset to the NS. Jon eventaully had to modify the panard rod to get the axle sitting centred. This is were Jon's motorsport engineering background comes in. Most places wouldn't touch an issue like this. Jon investigated, developed a number of possible solutions, picked one and sorted it. All done to an excellant standard.

4. Fit AEL ECU and injectors. I wanted a bit more go from my car so sourced an AEL ECU and injectors along with a set of chips from SPINKS. Jon fitted it all and set it up using VagCom. He also cleared a number of fault codes and re set the service indicator. Again, words can't describe the amount of time and effort Jon put into getting my car running right.

Jon did all the above in a single week. The standard of work and level of personnal care he puts into all his work is second to none. I can not put into words how strongly i wish to recommend Jon's work. HE IS A LEGEND!!! If you have a C4 chassis audi Jon's the ONLY person you should let work on your car. In fact if you have any car needing some work, Jon's your man.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Hello everyone!

I would just like to say another big thank you to Mr bladerunner.

I dropped my car off with a list of jobs to do again:
(Followed by my comments)

Clean and Schultz my underside, which is a messy job.

- He did all of the underside including wheel arches and it looks like new Smile

Strip out my suspension and fit a weitc 60/40 kit I got from yaz.

- This kit fitted properly with the new parts is great and a must to the c4.

Put new chips in the ecu and set up.

- Again another great job with my immo fault sorted.

Front snub.

- This is a cheap part that makes a big difference, Well spotted John.

Flip Key.

- A really nice upgrade that looks really nice.

Replace head lights and indicators.

- Mine were looking tired and John sourced a good set and fitted my HIDs.

And a few othr little bits.

- He found some small faults like a split hose and advised me straight away.

I collected the car 3 DAYS later yes 3 DAYS an oh my god it was like a new car it handles and goes so well.

Once again a great service from John Cool

Just like the cruise control I would highly recommend the Schultz to keep you car rust free and even though the sport suspension is not every ones cup of tea the difference is well worth the cost

Hi everyone !
Just came back from Bladerunner, and I`m really speechless after the whole day spent there. First of all what a great guy he is. The silver bullet of his is amazing, the way it goes..Shock
I had a full cam belt job done, and the instruments replaced.
After all being done I got it for a spin and gathered all the ponies that been wandering in the field back under the bonnet, so now I got all of them back but the problem is the donkey behind the wheel Razz
It turned out that my car is int in a bad condition as I`v first suspected.
The timing was retarded, it been smoking badly under acceleration, heavy on start up now it is all sorted.
If any one needs work done on their car Jonathan is the man.
I`v all ready got a list of the things I`d like to get done on mine and of course I`ll get it to be done by Jon.
300 miles round trip was well worth it. On my way back to London doing 70mhp it returned an average of 58.9mpg at some point it was showing 60.1.

Fantastic job Bladerunner, looking forward to see you again!

best regards
Wojciech.
