Thought i'd put up a small thread about the tdi avant I picked up recently from fellow forum member teabag.
Its a l reg titan gray 1.9 tdi avant.
I will try get some pictures up of what it looks like now.
This is what it looked like when I picked it up:
since then I've lowered it at the front (it already had the uprated and lowered rear shocks/springs fitted)
and since loosing one of the standard wheel trims (managed to take out a skoda in the process ) I got given a set of these rims for the car.
After a short trip to the breakers yard today i've got the following:
full set of grab handles in platinum with lights
outside temp gauge
rotary commander/dial sunroof panel (for the s2)
new gear gaiter
and a few other goodies for the princely sum of 10 quid.
Going back on tuesday for electric windows all round with the wiring for 50 quid
Got a pair of the b4 one piece lights for the front and its already got a blacked out s2 grille for it. I've just been sorting out a few little niggles and also found the time to blank off the EGR (which i've got to still take the manifold off and clean out)
I'm just seeing how cheap I can turn this into a nice daily driver for a laugh. I'm having more fun playing with this than the s2 which is a bit worrying |

A few other things that I have done:
completely black s2 front grille including the badge just to be different
full length switch rail and some blanks etc as I didn't like the small pocket there.
I sorted out the reason why the dash lights had blown and including the number plate light, where the wires had gone thru the rear hatch on the tailgate nearly all the wires had snapped/frayed and caused the problem, so I spliced in some new wires and all's good now.
Going to look at a quattro script interior tommorow hopefully for it which should sort the interior out a bit more. |

I saw this going for handfull of change and it broke my hart. Good luck with it! But the fact is that she has a good home! Nice project! I think everyone like to have something like this! What are the future plans? The interior is the best start you could manage! |

lol yeah spink used to call my 2 door diesel escort estate that so I thought it would suit this
In the first picture it has only been lowered at the rear afaik but the second picture is when I lowered the front to match. It had the uprated shocks and springs for the front in the rear.
Just came back from scrapheap challenge down my local scrappy and now have all 4x cartridges and handles for electric windows.but didn't get the wiring out as someone's added an alarm into it and chopped it all around
I know a couple of other people breaking s2 avants so gonna try rob the wiring from one of them.
Also the grill for the bonnet is now completely black as I thought i'd go for a change |

Another good day so far picking up some bits for it.
Full quattro script interior plus carbon 100 quid
Full electric window set (full catridges) 40 quid
So will have some fun tommorow fitting all of it. The interior is mint condition and came out of a s2 avant whose owners upgraded to rs2 spec interior. It should look quite nice in the avant. Then once the interiors sorted i'll carry on with the outside.
I'll get some more pictures up when i'm on the other machine. |

Aciburn you asked about the lights loom in a thread. Not much to tell really.
I used the sockets that will be in the back of your existing lights, Ripped them out with some plumbers pipe pliers. Snipped the sockets from a B4 car with the round pins and connected the wires colour for colour. Easy peasy and means I can put it back to standard easily if need be.
I actually got the sockets from a broken uselss set of lights so as not to waste a set. |

Ok think i'll be back down my breakers tommorow for some fun, got a pair of the correct plugs coming down from error404 so just need to get some pins.
This cars coming along quite quickly and is actually making me enjoy it more than the s2 which i'm bored out of my mind with atm. |

A couple of pictures I took earlier on the way back from taking my mum to get some stuff, hence laundry basket inside. Shortly after this I managed to get the quattroscript interior in this with my son and missus plus loads of tools etc.
not a bad starting place and already its getting better and better its taking the limelight away from the s2 a bit, just need my lockup so I can start on that. |

Ah, I take it back. You have painted the rings too.
I've the real deal OEM black rimmed one on the S2, but the soot monster has a standard one with the chrome edge painted satin black.
Both still have chrome rings.
Years ago I did have one with black rings, but on a dark car it looked a bit odd.
Sorry |

Lol no worries mate, was not sure
It does not look too bad on the tdi being titan gray, I jus thought i'd do it completely black being its a tdi. Was not too bad and a quick go over. Do you have a free flowing grille or still the tdi one? I got told that the tdi one would be better for helping the engine warm up and not get too much air flow but thought i'd try it anyways.
Out of interest whats your plans for the interior of sooty? |

It had the blanked off one when I got it. Now has a free flowing one.
The 1Z engine is very thermally efficient. Audi must have realised it took a while to heat up, no good in the winter when you are freezing your nuts off waiting for the coolant to heat up so you get warm inside. Blanked off grille was one of the solutions. Later 1Z's (1995) had a heater of some sort in the inlet hose to the heater matrix, to help warm the water even quicker.
TBH, not noticed a bit of difference since junking the blanked grille.
My interior is done. S2 Avant heated front seats cos the originals are like sitting on a bar stool. Rears will stay cos the dog gets in. The back seats are his
I ain't fussed about electric windows, so that rules out S2 Avant door cards all round as I'd have to chop a hole in them for the handle.
I have the S2 for flash interiors |

True see your point there. I got the interior cheap so i'm just seeing how much fun I can have modding mine.
I've found changing the grille motorway cruising it sits up higher at temp rather than at the bottom of the scale but in a good way and it pulls alot better in 3rd (higher up the rev's)
One thing about it that did amuse me was today for the first time I had a light flash on which i'd never seen before. As a couple of people have commented they think the dials are from a different car (6+rev gauge and 160mph speedo limit) well I found out something else which goes to prove this, I presume on the small lights 2nd up on the left is for the diesel pre-heat, well first time i've ever seen it today and what should pop up instead of this but the warning light for a convertible for the roof
How I chuckled about that, now time to stick it on vagcom and see what that says. Car starts fine no problem, only time i've ever had a problem is 3x now it don't like starting when i'm at work which is wierd, it will start up fine in the mornings etc but after a short while will kick in, no smoke behind etc and run fine. |

Like the all black grill against the grey, kind of ''Out of my way'' look, liking the drop too, something about a modded Avant just does it for me.
Nice an different, looking forward to see how this one goes Pete. Nice.

Well i've just agreed on an s2 front bumper for the princely sum of..... 35 quid....
just got to go get it, also was offered another one for 50 needing a bit of work .
Hoping to get a rear wheel bearing sorted today by a mate and i've got to go get the rs2 front bumper/mirrors from a mate either today or tomm and see if my enthusiasm for the s2 is rekindled.
I found that with the drop there is a nice long left hander by where I live and I can go round there in 2nd gear with the rear end hanging out |

Just putting out feelers.
I'll advertise it.
If it sells it sells - if not I'll keep it
Not too bothered either way
"IF" I had a garage I would def. keep it |

I'm trying to find out if 9j wide rear wheels will fit running 245 profile tyres (16 inch wheels) as i've seen some that i'd like but i'd need adapters to fit them. |
