*Improved SE package free of charge for all A4 models until June 30th, 2003
*A4 1.9 TDI (130) acknowledged by fleet sector analysts as most cost effective compact executive for business users
*New A4 1.9 TDI (130) multitronic CVT available to order from March 21st, 2003
The perfect premium compact saloon for business users could very possibly be the latest Audi A4 1.9 TDI (130PS) SE, as a rapidly increasing number of executives calculating the best possible balance between running costs,
specification and performance are discovering.
Now available with the additional benefit of a recently improved SE equipment package offered free of charge until June 30th, the A4 1.9 TDI (130PS) remains the most attainable premium executive saloon of its kind at
£19,965 OTR. It is also acknowledged by fleet sector analysts as the most cost effective compact executive contender overall, helped by an outstandingly low CO2 output of 151g/km which gives it the lowest
benefit-in-kind taxation burden in its class* (£1,426 for a 40% tax payer in 2003). Running costs are also lowest in class at 34.7 pence per mile**, as is depreciation over 3 years or 60,000 miles**.
Thanks to a sophisticated pump-injector fuel injection system that permits extremely efficient fuel combustion, the turbocharged 1.9-litre TDI engine provides the A4 with 130PS and an impressive maximum of 310Nm of torque. It
enables a 0-62mph time of 9.9 seconds and a maximum speed of 130mph, and gives the A4 the potential to cover up to 50.4 miles per gallon (combined cycle).
The new A4 1.9 TDI (130) multitronic, which will be available to order from March 21st, 2003, will be a close match for its manual counterpart in terms of performance and economy - an achievement that no other premium compact
executive automatic can boast. The Audi multitronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) offers all the benefits of stepless automatic transmission, but in contrast to other automatic options generally has little or no bearing on performance, fuel economy or emissions.
The A4 1.9 TDI 130 multitronic can, in fact, travel further per gallon than the manual version, as proved by its combined consumption figure of 51.3mpg.
It also accelerates from rest to 62mph only a fraction more slowly at 10.1 seconds, can reach a 127mph maximum speed and emits an even lower 149g/km of CO2 - making it the cleanest automatic in the upper medium premium sector.
In excess of 65,500 British customers opted for an Audi model in 2002, and of this unprecedented total around 30,000 chose an A4 - a record in itself for the brand. As emissions-linked company car taxation increases in
severity in 2003 and beyond, this figure is likely to be significantly exceeded, helped by the recently revised optional SE package for all A4 models which brings further improvements in specification.
The new package, available at no extra cost until June 30th, and for £610 thereafter, has now been upgraded to include cruise control and rear electric windows (previously standard only for six-cylinder versions) for
all SE-equipped models.
16-inch, 5-arm Trapez design alloy wheels are also new to the package, which continues to include a Concert radio with single CD player, a Driver’s Information System (DIS) and leather trim for the steering wheel, gear knob
and gaiter.
