In the third round of the Italian Superstars Touring Car Series the team of Audi Sport Italia celebrated the second victory with the new Audi RS 4. Following Tamara Vidali's exploit at Imola, Giorgio Sanna prevailed against the competition in his "home game" at Vallelunga. The Roman, having started from the second row, immediately took the lead which he defended up to seeing the chequered flag. Team-mate Dindo Capello could have clinched a double victory for Audi but in the ninth of 15 laps the Audi factory driver was forced to retire due to a defective fuse of the fuel pump.
