I have a '94 coupe & assuming the dash speakers are the same (they may not be), mine are 4" (100mm). I got some high-power replacements but they wouldn't fit - the replacements were too deep, there's a lot of gubbins under the speakers (ducting etc) & the standard ones seem to be particularly shallow! If you're getting some, get the shallowest you can find, mine were JBL & approx double the depth of the standard ones! They are also a right b@£$%&d to fit/remove (would be easier with the windscreen out!!!)

cheers

Kenwood 1068's fit fine, ( IIRC you have to break two of the mounting tabs off as the Audi only uses two). They sound much better than standard.

P.S. A set of kenwood tweeters fit in the small air vent just behind if you reomve the grill and greatly improve the sound up front. (You have to make a small hole in the duct to run the tweeter signal cable too...)

I've just fitted the 1068's too and would agree with steve that they sound pretty good and are a good fit.

My next task is to do something with those god awful speaker grilles that block just about all of the high frequencies!

Has anyone changed the rear speakers in the coupe??

Cheers all

i have Sony XS-F1031 in the front perfect fit with 2 of the screw lugs cut off. They are 3 way so the sound is pretty impressive over the OE Nokia speakers. Here is a picture

Do the front speaker grilles just lift out or is there a special tool required? I can see it being bloody awkward...any tips?

No. No special tools required, just patience Smile . The speaker grilles are just stuck in with a sort of sticky mastic type stuff. I just used my fingertips to prise them out.. If you use a screwdriver to lift them, take care not to leave marks. You may also want to consider changing the grilles for something that lets the sound out a bit better. (See other posts in this section.)

Steve. Where did you get the Sonys from?, and can I be cheeky and ask how much you paid?.

Cheers,

Si.

M8 easy fix Cool , go to the breakers, and get grills out of a slightly earlier audi 80, they are made of metal, and dont block sound!!.

Ive fitted kicker titanium 4" coax's in mine, and they sound amazing.
