Hi all,

I am new to the forum and excited about becoming a member. I feel bad that my 1st post is requesting help!

I have recently bought my first Audi after a string on Veedubs and absolutely love it. It has however developed a 'fault'?

Whilst coming home form a 200 mile trip the oil pressure went past it's 5bar mark, and that is where it has stayed whenever the ignition is on/engine is running.

The car runs lovely but I am definitely concerned and would like to resolve the issue.

The car is a 1993 2.o 16v coupe. It was serviced 300 miles ago and not lost any oil/water etc at all. I also had timing belt done and a few bits.

From reading through previous posts am I right in thinking it could be wiring? If so, what do I need to do to confirm and how do I sort it out?! I'm not even sure where the senders/switches etc are so if anyone had an exploded diagram specific to my car that would be fantastic?

Thanks loads in advance if you are able to help,

Ben

hi and welcome, sorry i cant ell you about the wiring and common problems for the gauges, but im guessing that as its only one of the gauges playing up it probably the sendor not the wiring loom, heres a pic of the location, above the oil filter number 17 is the oil pressure sender, they are available , ebay(use quility brand) or from motor factors, try unplugging connector G and if the gauge drops to zero then i believe its the sensor failed. unless you have some sort of oil pressure problem. good luck

Hi just got coupe my self and the gauge reads 5 bar but will drop to 1.5 at idle. Does yours go straight to 5bar when you turn the ignition on? try unplugging the wires fron the gauge to se it it drops to zero.

Hi both,

I have the 2.3e Cabriolet and the Handbook states the Oil Pressure Guage should on start up (especially when cold) go to about 5 bar whilst the fuel enrichment device is open (used to be called a choke in the good old days).

As the engine warms up the guage should fall and maintain a steady pressure between 1.5 and 2 bars of pressure, this is of course according to the Handbook and my cabriolet does exactly that!

Hope this helps?

Regards

Gary

sender is faulty or internals are stuck - replace

my 2.0e has a new oil pump and sits at 4 bar
