I have a 2011 A4 tdi fited with 225 x 50 R17 tyres. Could I change these tyres to 235 x 45 R17 on the same rims ??
What is the relationship between rim size and tyre size ?

yes you can, i have 235/45/17 on my 17inch alloys, you shouldnt feel any difference in driving, sometimes i put 225/45/17 on aswell depending which tyres i can get for better price.

Try this :http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
Going to from 225/50/17 to 235/45/17 gives approx reduction of 2% in circumsphere. This means at the same engine rpm you will go 2% slower and your speedo will indicate 2% too much speed.
