With all the talk of blocked oil pickup strainers I wonder if putting an oil pressure gauge on would give an early warning, anyone know if there's a suitable place on the engine to plumb a mechanical sender in , and what the oil pressure should be with a clear pickup ?.

On another site there is a post where someone jacks up the engine slightly and that allowed the sump to be lowered enough to get the pickup out without dropping the crossmember.

Fine if you just want to change the strainer. What about all the debris in the sump itself that is blocking the strainer to start with?. I wanted the sump off completely the clean it out. It also gave the lads chance to see if the plastic baffle had started to break down, which has been noted on others. My baffle was ok though.

Fair point about the baffle, I'd stick a telescopic mirror in and try and check it that way, but plan to drop the crossmember a little anyway. Changing the subject how does the 04 limited edition vary from a Sport ?.

That'll be a question for James.
I don't think it does. Not that I can see anyway. 6 speed manual? dunno.
It just states Limited Edition on the logbook.

It's a mystery to me, one I'm considering doesn't look any different. What's different on the 190 bhp engines ?.

Shocked No pressure...

In honesty, like Jase I don't know. It wasn't till Jase bought his car that I even knew an LE existed. The only model I knew about was the final run out B6 1.8T Sport's being badged as S-Lines and given the 190 engine and special trim bits.

The Sport v LE thing is irrelevant now for me, the car I was bidding for has just been pulled and relisted.

Yes it is, one previous mature owner that I spoke to, he gave the car the thumbs up.

Yup, always another. I looked for a good while, and viewed a few "mint" sheds.

Annoying as fook ebay, not just the private sellers either. Just been on there and I counted no less than 16 B6's all listed as "sport' when they are clearly not.

I looked at a 02 earlier in the week, a few dings but cheapish and seem to drive ok but everytime I shut it down the engine had a big end type knock Shock .

Hmmmn, apparently I'm not up to speed on how to play ebay so you don't have to pay fees. So what's a fair price for a 2004 1.8tq Avant LE on 84k, recent cambelt + waterpump, full history, looks in vgc, ?.

As a guide, I paid £4100 for mine on 111K.
It was up for £4500, but reduced down due to the scrape the guys wife did before I was due to pick up.
Full history, lots of receipts to back it up.

Thanks for sharing this, car I looked at is in the right price range then, I've just been to see it again and it all seems above board so I edited my previous posts. All being well I'll book a free Audi health check and get them to check the oil pressure at the same time, hopefully this give me an idea what state the oil strainer is in.

I've heard of so many people who have bought 1.8T's and after a few weelks/months there's been a slight engine rattle and then within a few miles the turbo has gone. Or worse.

Persoanlly, I'd get the pick-up etc all replaced as a preventative measure, Jase can advise better on cost but I'm sure it's money saved in the long run.

Yes, I was thinking it may be an OMG off the road and fix it or a week or two to sort things out.

Hi all, what years of 1.8 T does the oil pick up/strainer problem affect?
