Audi quote 80k or 4 (maybe 5?) years.
Personal feeling and experience says 60k is plenty more than enough. |

Has it never been done?
I'd do it asap! You'll flinch at the £500 bill, but not as much as I flinched at my £4.5k one! |

Get the thermostat (genuine Audi one which has been tested), water-pump and auxilliary drive belts done at the same time. |

What's the ballpark mileage the belt should have been changed at ? Reason I ask is I may spend morning calling garages on service book to see if any of them have done it, unless anyone knows of an easier way to find out this info quickly ? |

The recommended mileage is 80k as I said, and the timescale is 4 or 5 years I can't remember which but it should say in your maintenance book.
If your car is approaching 8 years old and 60k then it should have been done. As mentioned while the whole front of the car is off it's worth doing the thermostat (a £20 part for a £200+ labour bill done in isolation - been there done that too!), also do the water pump for the same reasons. as well as doing the belt make sure the idler and tensioner pulleys are done too.
I'd bank on £500 for a 2.5TDi. Not worth cutting corners though to be honest, if you use genuine parts you know where you stand. Some of the dealers such as Stafford or Stoke Audi will do a special deal, and this will come with a 2 year warranty. |

Will get a few quotes then from dealer, Indy and another garage where I've had all my c class work done, should be interesting but I will contact all garages noted in service book to see if any of them have done it and send letters to both previous owners asking them too. |

Yeah service book seems up to date with stamps but that's about it, need to have look to see if there is anything else listed especially bout timing belt but don't think there is. |

So, if the Audi service interval is quoting 80k miles why is it so critical to have it done now when i havnt had done more that 60k ? |

All garages in service book called and none have done timing belt so after a few quotes (Audi £900) the Indy who is doing my cruise control on Fri is now also doing timing belt and water pump etc for half the Audi quote |

There's no way I'd pay £900. Audi's fixed price servicing includes cam-belt change for 3-year old, 4 cylinder cars up to and including 2.0 litres. They can do that for £429, but that doesn't include water-pump, thermostat or auxilliary belts... which defeats the entire purpose of doing the job properly. |

Well that's me got car back tonight with new timing belt and water pump fitted. Going very well altho a down side is cruise control was not fitted as some part inside steering column was not present and had to be ordered. Will be done now on Monday. Nothing is ever easy with this bloody car of mine. |

A wee note here folks. Got cruise control, timing belt with assorted bits and DIS (if original quote is correct) all for jst a little bit more than my local stealership was quoting for the timing belt kit alone. Certainly pays to shop around and I've now discovered a great little Audi Indy into the bargain. Result for once !!!
