Hey all,
Have fitted my gauges and sensors, but think i have problems.... (1990 Audi 90 2.3E NG engine)

Can someone tell me what the oil temp reading should be when the car is up to temperature under normal driving?? Mine is sitting between 60 and the first bar after it.....

The oil pressure gauge is reading as it should, just a touch under 5bar when started cold, and settles down to 2bar once warm........

BUT.... Once the car reaches 3000rpm the oil warning on the auto check is coming on.....
When i swap poles on the sensor, the gauge doesn't work ie bounces right up to maximum reading, but i get no autocheck warning..... Is the sensor faulty? Are both sensors faulty??

Need to know if i need to get onto the guy i bought them off or not?

TIA
Dan.

Don't know if they all are the same or my car has been changed round at some time....
When i took the white ended oil pressure switch out at the bottom of the block, and replaced it with the 2 pin one, i had to take the black eneded oil pressure switch above it out , put the white ended one in there and swap the wires.. the one that was in the black ended switch to one of the poles on the 2 pin sender, and the one that was connected to the botom one back to the white ended one... phew, was a nightmare......

Not at all what you would expect going by the diagram imo.

On an up note, my car is going so much better, is now as responsive as i remember my old 2.2, although the way things happened i don't know what cured it. (thermostat, MTFS, coolant sensor, fuel filter?)
But it's heating up faster, the water temp gauge rises to where i remember my other ones. Still to find out if it has cured the fuel thirst tho? I did take it for a blast to test how it was running, but as it's on sorn, didnt want to be out to long in order to messure mpgs, although now it actually seems to be running right, no doubt it will be driven harder, doin away with good mpgs anyway lol Wink

there's two versions of the canister type sensor.

You shouldn't have to swap wires - it means you should have fitted the canister sensor in place of the other pressure sensor

You are probably correct, and that thought went through my mind afterwards, but there is a coolant pipe and wiring in the way, where as you can get a long socket over the existing sensor to fit/remove it, due to the shape of the canister type, a spanner is needed, and it is not reachable due to the pipework/wiring, hence the wiring/sensor swap............
