When I next get home one of my jobs on the to do list is a propshaft rebuild. I have a centre bearing but I need two new CV joints. Audi only want to sell me a complete propshaft - if they can find one and not the smaller parts. I've heard that inner CV joints from a Ford Scorpio will fit but is this just a myth. Whilst the UJ would appear to be OK, if it does need replacing does anyone know where I can source one?

Ta very much

What was your source for the centre bearing? Bladerunner & I are looking to replace the centre bearing on my 97 A6 2.5TDi quattro at some stage. As you mentioned, Audi only want to sell the whole thing (for £1200)...

I got mine from 034 Motorsport in America. Here's a link to the ones they do for the A6. One of these will be the one you want.

Pete Reeve supplies prop bearings, not direct fit for small chassis (need to be cut and re drilled then bolt right on), they migh be for large chassis though.

As Mike says check the prop thread on s2 forum.

Yes. I know. I spoke to Pete a couple of weeks ago and he can supply one at 135 quid. Ouch! He can get cheaper BMW bearings but even he says they are crap. The one I got from 034 was half Pete's price including the postage. The centre bearing is not the issue. I'm looking for CV joints so if anyone can point me in the right direction they will got to the top of my xmas card list.

Nice one Daz. As luck would have it I'm home again next week as the UAE government have granted an extra long public holiday to mark the end of Ramadan. (God bless the Prophet Mohamed and all that) so I'll give them a call.

Hi Bos,as regards your uj,if you do need 1,i should be able to help,we sell GKN one's at work. They're not listed by application though Confused but by size.I would need the cap diameter, and whats called the 'span' - which is the measurement across the uj with the caps left in place. With your cv's,can't tell from your post, but do you have the old one's,if so,you be able to get them reconditioned.I know a great place around the corner from me at work you could try.If you don't have the old ones, just give me the cars details, and i'll speak to my mate who works there for you Wink

Nose. 'Allo mate. Sorry I've been so long in replying but I've been busy doing other things and neglecting my real duties. Thanks very much for your offer but I may have this sorted. When I was last home I found a place in Newport, South Wales that supplies prop bits. They have supplied everything I need: CV joints, UJ and a better centre bearing than the one I have so job's a good 'un. I haven't rebuilt the shaft yet but that I will do when I next get home. I have got the part numbers for these bits so I will post details soon.

Cheers

Steve
