I have been trying to get vag com working on my AEL A6, I have version 311-2 and a USB to serial lead. managed to get it to detect the com port but now getting error3: interface not found or not ready (getting this whether connected to the car or not). Ignition is on etc. Could this be the version is designed for serial? I hope ot as I have no serial port on my laptop.

Thanks for any assistance guys.

Although you have Vag Com do you have the correct interface for the car?
Most generic OBD2 diagnostic leads won't work. You must have the correct Vag Com or lead to work with the software. Ross Tech in the US sell the correct interface although they are pricey. You could take a chance buying "Vag Com" leads on the web but beware, they don't all work.

yes, I'm now waiting for funds to permit me buying a genuine setup. Makes sense the amount of these cars I have now.

Not sure if you are still interested but got the same cable with same error. It is down to the COM port you machine will be setting the USB device to. If you reassign the USB device it to either COM1 COM2 COM3 or COM4 and connect via that it will work.
