the s6 plus was LHD only I know that much.

I assume this is worldwide figures. Where did you get the numbers from?

I would quite like to know how many urS4 avants there are in the UK, i am guessing not very many!

How many are left......

Another S6 owner got in contact with me via email (based in Scotland).
He found some very interesting information.
Just the other week the BBC published MOT failure data from the DVLA, also he managed to find out that there are less than 500 S4 & S6's on the road in the UK (from 2007)
It's becoming a rare beast indeed

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/opensecrets/2010/01/mot_failure_rates_released.html

Here's the link to the datasheet .xls file
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/opensecrets/MOT_Make_Model_Comp_2007.xls

Very interesting stuff. I have just scanned the raw data and to me there is a few things that don't add up, so not sure it is 100% reliable. For example how come data exists for Audi 100's first used in 2001, mmmm there is a fair bit of human error in there me thinks.

It is however a very good indication of what is still out there.

I must admit I am not enjoying reading this thread. My S6 is maybe moving on Sad It is a decent spec manual model as well, which I think a lot of them were a bit lean on the spec side. mmmmm Sad

Those databases are meaningless really. I mean, of those that failed, how may weren't ever serviced until they failed / broke down?

My 80 failed when I got it but being as it hadn't been serviced for 3 years I'm not suprised. Doesn't mean it's a bad car Wink

I agree Owen, no consideration of millage either so don't think it is safe for the BBC (for example) to make comparisons between manufacturers or models for that matter. This is maybe the Data Analyst coming out in me here!!

There is sure not many about though, driven one UrS6 Saloon and one UrS6 avant before I got mine. Met a UrS4 owner at a filling station one day and he said he also owned a UrS6, also passed Ian (Istoo) outside Aberdeen last month in his UrS4. We will meet one day Ian!!

I'm still trying to play with the data... it doesn't tell you, for example, out of how many of those that failed, how many were unique? For example, one car may have failed, BUT it could account for 6 failures... (tyres, brake pads, knackered wiper blades, light out, emissions, etc.)

It also doesn't tell you out of all the passes, how many were MOT failures that were re-tested.

And if you REALLY want the data to work for you and give you a TRUE comparison, you also need to know how many cars of that model are currently taxed, how many are scrapped, and how many are "unknown". (IE. stolen, exported, etc.)

I used to do this sort of sh!t for my daily job. Once you have a "base" to work from you can REALLY get into it - but I guess with no perspective to the data.....

btw- there's at least 1 Audi 80 registered in 1883, I think.... check out the dates of the A4's.... serious anomalies with the data.... either somebody entered it wrong, or the MOT test stations are seriously getting it round their necks! If they don't know what the car actually IS, how the hell do they know what they should be testing? Rolling Eyes

oh. it's an Audi. Oh it's petrol/ diesel. After that...... ?

Reminds me of a story Owen told me once- years back, he went into his local dealership parts department- needed something for his Audi Coupe quattro 20 valve. The reply?
"We've never made that car, sir"

I can imagine Gandalf's exact words, but the long and short was "what is that car parked outside then?"

Yea I noticed the 1883 entry as well. It would have been better if they were doing it on registrations, as this is obviously human entries and there are obvious mistakes. It is also concerning that there is cars well out of production by the dates given as date first used.

You are spot on as well about retests, the car may fail 3 times before passing so in the data this will show as 4 entries. There is even the potential for the car to be on there twice if it were tested at the start and end of the year. I suppose though with the way the data is, it is safe to assume this will be the max number of cars tested due to all the above reasons.

In fairness I suppose the data has been collected to show fail rates, rather than what we are interested in.

This sort of data handling is kind of my daily job too, not fun...

Don't get me wrong, it can be good, but when you are staring at data produced for one reason and you are trying to work something else from it, it can be a pain.

I am currently staring at tidal data that makes no sense what so ever, it looks like a human quirk as well Laughing

It is maybe more fun if you are not doing it for a living!!

Yea I certainly do Ian. I have been wanting to do this for a while now but it just finding time. My old man is right up for it as well and funny enough was speaking to Owen about potential days when I was down at his last month.

A3 sounds a cracker. Your bro goes through some amount of cars!!!

By the way, I currently "applying" to be back in the 90q 20v club again, will keep you posted!!

Mmmm I had a similar experience with Highland Audi once with my 90Q 20v, over a stupid pump to filter fuel pipe which took weeks to sort out. Never got an apology in the end from them either, and have never used since. Laughing

We've all been there.

The parts man at my local dealer asked if my S4 was 4 wheel drive. Laughing

Yep i got that too after getting all the rear spring mounts etc for a front wheel drive car, when i took them back i got ''oh, yours is the quattro then?''

When i told them it was the S6 not the A6 i just got a polite, i have no idea what that is, smile back...................... Rolling Eyes
