I have been having a few problems with temperature guage on the dashbroad of my audi cab. I have taken it to a garage and they have told me that it is the printed cirucit board and that it is a common problem with this model of audi. Has anyone heard of this or have had this problem before?

temp gauge problems are common but they're not always caused by the pcb. It's commonly the multi function temp sender.
what are the symptoms

I have already change the temp sensor for a new one, that was my first guess. The temp gauge works when I start the car up and then stop after about 10 to 20 minutes. Have you got any more ideas?

sounds like poor solder on the instrument cluster drying out as current starts to flow. a new cluster will fix it but you may want to try soldering the board

Hi,
I think it unlikely that your instrument panel is beyond repair. This problem was caused twice! on mine by two seperate faults
The first time it was the wire from the sender to the plug on the back of the instruments. I couldn't find the break, so just ran a new wire. The second time it was caused by the voltage regulator. It's a small black square thing with 3 legs, mounted on the back of the instrument panel. The 3 legs fit into little clips, these can become loose.
What also could be happening is that the voltage rectifier could be starting to break down as it heats up.
Hope you sort it.
Si.
P.s. If you take out your instruments, dont forget to replace any duff bulbs while you're at it

Cheers guys for all your help, I'm going to take the dash out this weekend and have a look at the PCB. Hopefully everything can be sorted by a little bit of soldering. If not it looks like I will just have to buy a new broad and go from there.
