Hi All!

Congratulations on an excellent website--has proved essential when tinkering with my two old series 2 coupes and 80 1.6 td..which brings me to my question..

I bought an L-reg 80 1.9 turbo diesel at the weekend--it was advertised as a TDI and has TDI listed in the V5. However, the engine code I think is AAZ--I think this is just the straight 1.9td (75bhp)--can anyone confirm this? I wasnt exactly sure how different the TDI engine (code 1Z??) looked--what bits can I expect to find on a Tdi engine that I wouldnt find on a td engine? This ones got lots more shiney bits and connections than my old H-reg 1.6td, which was I originally thought it was the TDI.

Is it easy to upgrade a Td to a Tdi? or is it a little more involved than swapping pumps and electrical bits? I was only really looking for a TDI so I am a bit miffed if I didnt get one after all that! Still, it has an electric sunroof (and yes, no leccy windows!) so I'm chuffed enough with that! (easily pleased!).

Thanks in advance for any answers to my query!

Steve

Firstly congrats on your purchase.
As far as I know the only visable differences from my experience are that the TDi has no throttle cable and has an intercooler as opposed to the TD.
The intercooler is situated in behind the drivers side air duct under the bumper. :baa:

Hi,

Thanks Andycap..looks like mine is just a TD then... I think my old 1.6td had an intercooler, but wasnt sure if that was an auxillary water radiator or not. Will have to try and do something as the new one is so slow..anyone got any suggestions on how to beef up the performance of a straight 1.9td? I dont think this one has any chips to "chip"!

Ta
