With the engine idling and all things normal, the hydraulic fluid level should not be higher than the top mark on the reservoir. If you then switch off the engine and start pumping the brake pedal you will return the fluid from the bomb back to the reservoir. On my 2.6 this takes the fluid level up to the top of the reservoir, but there is still room for a little extra fluid in the filler and top of the reservoir, just. It can take 20 to 30 pumps to empty the bomb, you will feel a definite change in the pedal action when it runs out of pressure.
Anyway, check you still have room left in the reservoir with the bomb empty, then inspect the seal in the cap etc. With the motor running its pretty near impossible to empty the bomb, even with frantic pumping of the brake pedal. I tried it and managed to get the warning light to come on only at low engine speeds. I suspect it does not matter how hard you apply the brakes, it uses much the same amount of fluid with each press. You could be getting leak from fluid slopping around under braking if the cap is not good. It makes a damn mess, you will not miss it. Check the return pipes from the brake master cylinder, the power steering, and the bomb for leaks, it helps to take the bottom plastic engine shield off for a good look, plus the top engine cover.
