Hi all
I have just found & purchased (unseen) a hard top for my 80 cabrio picking it up next week, what parts do I need to swap from the owners car to mine & is it something that can be done in an hour or 2 & what tools would I need ?
His is a 97 & mine 99 year model & sounds like he has had it from new so I am assuming its a genuine Audi one .
Any help/advice greatly appreciated..

Everything from his will fit yours. You just need the post that the rear is held down with. I'm in Kent if you want to see how it fits. |

Picked up the new top on thursday & well pleased with it, just 4 questions:-
1) the 2 studs that you put the nuts on to ( 4 mm allen key) hold down the left & right rear mounting brackets, what are they for?is there a set height for them as when fitting the brackets the man I got it from just removed them & put the ones he removed off his car on complete with the nuts.
2) do you have to remove the rear mounting brackets every time you take the roof off ?
3) is there a winch kit available to lift the roof off & lift to the garage roof ?
(BMW do one)
4) approx weight of the roof ?
Any ideas any one ?? |

1) There is a recommended height for this: 33mm (see attached pic)
2) Yes, otherwise the storage compartment lid will not close.
3) Not that I am aware of, but the previous owner of my own hardtop simply secured his to his garage roof via rope. Simple, but effective!
I bought a stand from a well known auction site for £70 delivered - included a cover as well. It will need a decent sized garage to store it rememeber!
4) Absolutely no idea - at a (total) guess I would say 22-25KG?
The real pain in fitting these is getting them to level up at window level to stop wind/rain from getting in. See relevant pic attached for height adjustment details.
Apologies for the weird symbols in the screen grabs from the pdf files I have..these were in the original files, but it is still easy enough to work out what's what!
Good luck |

v6 fubar, do you know the exact weight of the hardtop?
You said 22-25 but I think that is too light.... but I am guessing ofcourse.
Can anyone really put it on scale for exact weig in pounds or kg?
this will help me alot, thanks |
