I'm starting to think that a 5 stud conversion would be the best answer to my current alloy wheel dilema, there's so many nice wheels available in the 5 stud configuration.

Is it an expensive thing to do, I know there would be new hubs/disks/bearings, but are there straight swaps that can be done?!

I've done it on my 80quattro B4. Not at all straight forward

You need all the above plus the wheel bearing housing and possibly the driveshafts all from an S2.
Reason being is that the bearings on an S2 are bigger, wider (I converted a 2.6 V6 to 5 stud), so I needed the wheel bearing housings as well.
Then you might need S2 brake calipers at the rear, can't remember if my V6 ones fitted.
As a matter of course I fitted G60 calipers to the fronts.
I tried with S6 driveshafts etc as I was breaking mine anyway, the hubs fitted but they rubbed against the housing.
Also looked at using A4 hubs but there are 3 different types

Lot easier to do if your car isn't a quattro

Just a point to note chaps. The cabby is non quattro, so the rear is a piece of cake.
1995 A4 FWD 1.6/1.8/1.9 rear discs/bearings and abs rings.
The disc IS the hub.
It's all in my project sooty thread. Front too.
It's a long read and an even longer thread, so grab a coffee.

Jase..

Yea, but the link you provided had a hot German blonde. I'll buy anything she tells me to!

They actually seem relatively low profile. I have a set of 5 stud 16" wheels from my A4 with snow tyres on them, I'll maybe consider these for winter when the speeds won't be enthusiastic anyway...

So yep, finally getting around to this... And digging up an ancient thread, but since it's my own I reckon that's ok!? Smile

Anyway, have moved on in life to a 2.8 cabby and want to do a 5 stud conversion.

Had a read through the project sooty thread and got to this bit:

Quote:

This TDi uses 75mm wheel bearings ojn the front, the S2 front hubs press into 82mm bearings. So S2, cq20v7A or 2.8 carriers would be needed. So you fit the carriers (no need for me to worry, my struts have 14mm bolts holes) but then my TDi driveshaft won't fit, too small as they locate into smaller wheel bearings. S2 driveshafts are a no go, this 80 is FWD, meaning unequal length driveshafts even if I fitted the correct flange on the box.
Bit more head scratching. Coupe 2.8 FWD shafts would work. IF I could find any.
Step forward Mike (MikeS2). He kindly located two 2.8 cq front driveshafts and I'm going to remove their outer CV joints and fit them to the end of my TDi driveshafts. Lots of extremely boring internet searching and cross referencing parts, have told me the end of my TDi driveshaft is 24mm in diameter and has a tooth count of 30. I've measured the size and tooth count of the 2.8 CV's and they match. The outer splines of the 2.8 CV match and fit in the S2 front hubs which were sourced from another mate.

So feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here, but I have made a few assumptions:

1) The hub carrier will work, guessing the bearings will also work, just need to replace the actual hub itself to the 5 stud pattern?
2) Since it's already got Girling G60 calipers I will only have to get some S2 front disks?
3) An A4 from a scrappy will get me the back parts I need? Or just buy new A4 disks and fit them? I'm sure there's a hub on there! Get the rear hub from a 100 from a scrappy? I know where there is one...
[/list]

Yes. S2 Coupe/Avant 5 stud front hubs.

Yes, S2 Coupe/Avant front discs of your choice.

Looks to sorted by Sidricks sale.
You will need someone to fit the abs rings, unless you have access to some gear to heat therm up significantly so they slip on the rear of the disc.

Good luck and enjoy the HUGE selection of wheels this will open up for you.

So hubs and I'd imagine I'd also need the bearings. Anyone got any idea where to get them cheap?

Checked the carriers on etka, exact same P/N, but the hubs are going to be a few hundred!

Scrappies aren't exactly tripping up over RS/S2's either!

Not that they'd come up, but RS2 hubs are no good.
They are 5x130 (Porsche wheels fitted to original car)

Last time I needed a caliper carrier I pulled one from a 1.8 B5 A4.

No guaruntees of course but that's where I would start looking.

If sidrick is still on here he might be able to tell you what parts he sold me, Instill haven't tried fitting them yet. Only just got the car off the road to do other work and thinking of buying a ur! Smile
