trip computers cannot be installed as they are on any 80 tdi`s, the later ones can be made to work, but need an interface to show the exact numbers (consumption).
installing the cruise control is easy, but works only on the latest 1Z engines, (202nm torque).
There is a blue inline 6 pin connector under the steering wheel. you only need to connect the wires to the stalk, enable the CC via vagcom and it works.

Cheers Skull for the info, I've been looking into cruise control! The ecu I'm using is from the last revision of the 80 tdi. I telephoned Bosch to find out if I could use it with Cruise control. The ecu is the same as early A4 tdi's, so I presume cruise is no problem. I've got a few photos of the blue plug in the harness. Maybe you could tell me if it is the one I look for!!
Thanks
Jim

As fo the trip computer
As I was told the ecu I am using is the same as an early A4 ecu then that surely means that the trip comp out of an early A4 should work with this ecu.
As I said I spoke to Bosch and they confirmed that the ecu has an injected quantity signal (pin 9) on the ecu.
The thing that would be great if I could get the information about is the 80 minicheck with trip computer module as it has the jumper config stamped in the moulding
RW-Diesel-4/5 Zyl
What does this mean?
I think the minicheck with trip was available in an Audi 100 5 cylinder tdi, as there is a diesel code plug listed in the audi 100 parts list for the tripcomp!!!
The question is..... why was the moulding stamped Diesel 4/5 cylinders?
Was the minicheck with trip ever fitted to a 4 cylinder diesel????.......and if so what????

RW-Diesel 4/5 Zyl = seems to indicate that it works for Rest of World (not USA) diesel, 4 and 5 Cylinders. The later cars (1992 -->) in the USA were all 6 cylinders, until the 1997 A4 1.8T.

Ehh, come to think about it!! I don't have one either. A couple of Cruise stalks for 80's required then.
Or are there any others that fit from the vag parts bin?

Your right Jim, ive done a wee bit of searching and havent come across any, wonder if the dealer can still supply them, i think they might be similar to the early a4s

I thought the trip comp/ wiper switch was the same in all cases. Err.. NO!!
Got one of a well known internet auction site and started to fit it into my existing housing.... no go, the new one was for a larger diameter housing. Ended up dismantling the new part and putting the stalk onto my existing housing. All part of the Audi education programme
It works though...... I think..... Well it better work... If I ever manage to get it going.......

Has anyone managed to get the trip computer working properly on a late 80 tdi?
Does the a4 or similar come with the interface or box needed to fix the consumption figues?
