Hi,

Am a long term Audi Cabriolet owner - 10 years and now 140k miles and wanted to get an S8, primarily because I'm looking for a powerful, refined all mod cons car that is comfortable and can fit the family.

Could any S8 owners give me their thoughts on the right model and things to look for?

Thanks in advance!

Looking for something up to 10k, so not sure what model that would get, but like all mod cons, sat nav and not something that needed any work.

Well that's not a big enough budget to guarantee no work needed...even if you mean 10k GBP (15.5K USD).
In the US, that would get you, at best, a 2003 D2 S8 with under a 100k miles.
$10k USD might get you an '01 with well over 100K miles.
If you do your own mechanic work, upkeep is not bad...if you use a dealer or full priced mechanic, an expensive car to own. If timing belt service has not been done (100k miles at latest), that runs from $1800 - ? $$.
The weakest point of the D2 vintage is transmission problems at high mileage..anywhere from 120k - 185k miles....major rebuild (3-5K USD).
