Project 'slow-mo' is taking shape ! Slowly obviously ! Laughing
She got parked up mid 2009 while I was driving a BMW cabby round and what started out as a bit of a 'tart' up got turned into a mild restoration project !

Parts fitted or looked at :
New front discs and pads
New rear discs and pads
New drop links
Powerflex diff mount
Rear lights re-sealed
New steering wheel
Ellipsoids fitted
Rear subframe painted
New wheels and tyres

Parts acquired but as yet not fitted :
Koni adjustables
Lowered springs
Powerflex wisbone bushes all round
Powerflex front ARB mounts
Lower door trim pieces
De-chromed grill
S2 headlamp washers
Full leather and carbon fibre trim
New door seals
New engine plastics (body colour perhaps)?

Anyway here's a few teaser pics Very Happy

That's my 'new wheels' on there already james.
I've been looking for some 'old skool' Azev A's for ages.
I have been toying with the idea of having them powder coated white but I just cant bring myself to do it Laughing
Might have a go with my old RVO's though because I think white wheels on a dark car really set it off ! (just a nightmare to keep them clean) !

Update : Been a bit busy this week but by the end weekend hoping to have flushed, drained and re-filled with the correct coolant Embarassed
Fitted a few coolant pipes I had knocking around
(but after removing and soaking no joy in making the header tank any clearer though ) ?
Flushed, drained and re-filled with some decent oil (magnatec ! any thoughts on this) l and filter.
Fitted some new top mounts and started re-assembly on the fronts
Fit 'NEW' door seals NLA I might add Cool
Fitted K&N (wondering now about drilling the airbox) Rolling Eyes

pics tommorow or maybe the next day if the name of this project serves me correctly Laughing

In the meantime whats best as a engine bay cleaner ? I have got new plastics for surrounding the engine for when I do a cambelt/waterpump change. But who uses what for quick degrease and clean and detail ?

This looks dog tired Shock

And my fav shot of the day ! Who cares if my trackings out Laughing

From this, to this ! Just couldn't get the b****y thing clean inside so replacement was the only option !

Picked these up as well as the header tank from another forum member, thanks pete Wink

Almost ready for re-assembly Very Happy
Would have liked to shot blasted then powder coated these as they are still a bit rough Embarassed But time constraints are against me !

Recommended under bonnet cleaning and detailing products anyone Question

Also can anyone give me some accurate measurements for the positioning of headlight washers in the front bumper (or something to work on) ?
I already have lots of pics but something in mm would be nice Wink

The trim (not with the carbon) came with a 20v coupe I bought.
Bought the whole car for £400 with a mint leather trim AND a rare Nardi RR sport steering wheel Cool
Put my old quattro trim in + a 4 spoke steering wheel and then sold the car on for £350 Very Happy
The guy who bought it from me via fleabay slagged the life out of the 20v even though it came with a full 12 months MOT !
......Then he sold it a couple of months later for £750 !! knob

I've never found anything which will effectively clean an engine when it's in the car. It's just too difficult to get to a lot of bits. Saying that I've seen people make a very good job of it so it must be possible. I've spent a very long time cleaning bits for my 80. I had to resort to shot blasting and painting my cam covers as they were corroding under the paint in places. Also I could not clean the MAF or inlet manifold with any product I tried, as you've probably seen, I bead blasted mine which I've found very effective on bare aluminium alloy items.

The strangely annoying thing is I drive my cabriolet everyday, in any weather and yet the engine bay still looks like this. I've never cleaned it in any way:

If you want to measure the headlamp washers on my car you're welcome to come and do so.

Cheers buddy, I will pm you my mob number when it gets a bit nearer to me starting on these as I still haven't finished rubbing them down Rolling Eyes

I'm not trying to get my engine bay spotless as I know this would be impossible without taking the lump out, just trying to make it a bit more presentable (a bit like yours) Laughing
I will try a few different cleaning products and see how it goes.

jgb888 - I got the carbon fibre trim from the same place they keep the Hens Teeth Laughing

Update: Project slow-mo got loaded onto a low-loader last Saturday and off to my mechanics to have the Koni's and Powerflex bushes fitted Cool
I got a phone call today and my mate said 'alright Chris I have some good news and some bad news !
1st the bad news is my alternator is f****d !
Good news is struts are fitted and all the Powerflex wishbone bushes are fitted Cool Apparently it went all straightforward apart from the bushes which turned into a nightmare ! Problems getting the wishbones back in because of the thrust washers either side. I forgot to mention this would be a pain after reading about this on the S2forum Rolling Eyes

All that's left to do now is crack off the rear tie rods in readiness for a four wheel alignment !

MOT booked for tomorrow, fingers crossed !
Low-loader booked for next Monday and lots of pics Very Happy

Did he winch that on using the towing eye?

Good luck with the MOT.

I have used jizer to degrease my engine bay before, then sprayed with a hose carefully. I took the precaution of spraying any electrical connections with wd40 before hand and was careful where i directed the water.

No hibby, I drove her onto the back under her own steam Smile Why ?

She passed the MOT with flying colours Cool
Only thing that needed to be done was the headlights alignment (to be expected after fitting the Ellipsoids) !
And NO advisories Very Happy
The drive had me smiling big time all the way to the MOT station and back !
She did boil over during the MOT but that was due to me not re-connecting the thermo fan plug after draining and flushing the cooling system Embarassed All good now though !

Right pic time !
