this is a new car for me and at the mo needs a lil TLC
but i love how it drives!!!!
i was driving home from work about a 50 mile trip on daul carriageway so was travelling at about 70...ish.
and it was like some just jumped on and off the breaks for a like a second.
it done this 2 times really quickly then was fine.
i slowed for a roundabout and on the acceleration from the roundabout it done it again 2 really sharp jolts then fine again then it done this once more then managed the other 20ish miles with no problem.
is this likely happen again???
while i have this open any ideas why i dont have any dashboard backlights???
the indicators come up a few lights come on when i put the key in the ignition but while i drive i have no lights (slight pain in the dark lol)
sorry for the mass of info
any help will be much appreciated

..... uhuh !
there is a post here recently where there is some advice about the dashboard lights, I think it's on this forum as I had some advice about my dashboard lights and switches. Trouble is , I'm new here so I can't remember where it was...( I'm overwhelmed by all the info I have been absorbing lol ) It was not on a post that I had posted and should still be on the front page. If you have a few hours to spend it's amazing what you find here
this was the original of what I was trying to recall, I then went to a site for 20v engines which had further info on the types of lights etc ( push in / solder ) .
audi20v.net is the site , I'm not sure how much use it would be for yours but it may give you good insight.

and we think the cough/splutter might actually have been the strut bush or something (the piece right at the top of the suspension leg) it is worn and there is evidence it has been moving around.

Hi
The instrument lamps are on the same fuse as the glovebox lamp and the numberplate lamps. glovebox lamp switches can fail, and the wiring to the number plate lamps can break/short in the area where the boot hinge is. If these are ok, it could be the instruments themselves. Wiring plugs can work loose, but problems with the circuit board are not unusual - bad soldering, cracks, etc.
Top mount wear is common, but I doubt it would cause drivability issues? Having the fault codes read might shed some light on it, But if you would prefer to 'try something' first, I would suggest disconnecting the vehicle speed sensor (near the l/h driveshaft, on the gearbox). If this stops the 'jerkiness' there are a few options open, if not then you probably need to get the codes read or test some other components.
