You will see via my project thread that I've had a few issues with some chips I bought for my UrS4. I've asked the seller for some help with sorting this out and this is the reply he's given me......

"Do you have rotor ignition? The very early, and rare first edition of the AAN?"

I don't think so but would value any views Wink

Also if this doesn't work out, any recommendations where I could get the chips re-written or a good seller?

The chips are stage 1 in that they give 285bhp and remove limiter from the boost.

Cheers

unless yours has had a replacement engine from a very early car(ie J reg) it definetly won't have the early dizzy arrangement.

easy way to tell is to look at the same place where the dizzy is on your old 7a

what problems are you getting with the chips?is it misfiring etc? have you had it on vagcom?

very common failure is the coils/coil boots/spark plugs/pos's if any of these are not in good order running a chipped ecu will show up any problems instantly.

Cheers spink. When the MTM chips are in the engine turns over but doesn't start.

There is a problem with the coils, had to splice a replacement in for the fourth cylinder as the plug was wet. Have been pricing a set up for a few weeks now, with the high output kit from 034 coming in at around £450 delivered. Someone told me last week that RS4 coils would do as good a job?

yeah theres loads of different coils you can fit but the originals are as good(if not better) than anything else and probably longer lasting, especially more than the 1.8t coils which seem to fail regularly.

I seem to remember that the 034 kit is a set of toyota supra coils or similar(don't quote me on that)

so this ebay bloke sold you a set of MTM chips, were they originals?might be a daft question but did you fit them the right way around in the ecu?

Best quote for an original coil pack kit to date is £560+vat ouch lol

Yep chips went in the right way, we even swapped them around incase the labelling was mixed up etc

Guy on ebay came recommended and quite a few in the club are running his chips.....but I really should get this coil pack sorted.

Got to get through this weeks MOT before I start spending dosh on coil packs lol

I understand gsf do the beru ones at £90,and there is a place in the states that sells them at about £60 a piece but with the exchange rate malarky they will more than likely be more now.The plug connector boots are about £30 each aswell over here but are about £3 over there for some pattern ones which so far work well(bloke on s2forum has done a couple of bulk buys and distributed them around)

To my knowledge, my urS4 has the MTM chip as well. there is paperwork to that effect from QST at least. Thus thats where mine came from, a bit dearer for sure but the only way your going to know its OEM is unless you buy OEM. Jas has an MTM chip in his as well.

Beerbelly bought he high output coilpacks from 034motorsport. They could be supra versions? Apparently bombproof, but wiht a pricetag to match. i have heard the same with 1.8T coilpacks. infact its a known fail point on the 1.8T!

Acceleration-wise its hard for me to tell having never had an 20vt before if it is or isn't but above 4500rpm it really shifts. but its not as profound a thump in the back as the remapped 1.8T was. more progressive.

MikeS2 mentioned the possibility of damp getting into mine, hit a big loch a few weeks ago during the monsoon season. checked but it feels all dry.

offer is there still if you want to transplant to my car and test it, or alternatively wait till i am down for my 90 which is a few months away and we can try then?

yodaboy,do either of the mtm chips have a separate board attached to the pins?if so then they are more than likely original.

Cheers guys - Istoo thanks for the offer matey its much appreciated and I was going to take you up on your offer.....and then...........

chap who sold them thinks he may have sent the wrong chips, anyway he's agreed to send me a different set which he has guaranteed will be tested before they are dispatched Cool

The chips are definately from MTM, my s4 did have some MTM chips in a previous life as the carriers were in the ecu and there was a sticker on the ecu.

Cross fingers the next ones will work Wink

When it was trying to start did you get the orange immob. flashing away at any point (during or after)?

I had the same problem when I first fitted mine - used vagcom to reset the immob. there's a post about it in the forum somewhere....

I'll try to find it
