Andy,
Was that the ones on the bottom of the doors or the larger ones halfway up ?
it's the ones along the bottom I've to do as they're hanging off.
I take it they just slide off

bottom ones. Yes, slide off. Grab the very bottom of the rubber, and slide it off. There's a clip at each end of the rubbing strips (door bottom) that pops off. We opened the doors and just pulled them straight off, following the line of the door bottom so the plastic clips weren't broken.

I gave the doors a good clean, so as to remove any crap and avoid future problems with crap build up (and eventually rust formation or the replacement trims becoming perished)

is this the same way to remove coupe trims as mine are distorted where can i get replacements

replacements- try www.vagparts.com - I'm not sure if the same method of removal/ refitting on the Coupe- Mike may be able to answer that one....

Cheers Andy. If you've done this, then it must be easy.

I got mine from the dealer. With my 10% discount it worked out just as cheap as VAG Parts.

Coupe will be the same - the only difference will be the length so it may be more difficult to remove.

Car failed it's MOT yesterday. Rear ARB bushes are worn and a headlamp aim is too high. That is all.

Should be easy to fix

Not the drivers side headlamp by any chance ?

How did you guess ? Don't know why the MOT tester couldn't have fixed this. ARB bushes are on order. Just hope the bolts don't shear off in the subframe. been there with the S2.

Car has passed the MOT. Did ~100 miles in it yesterday. Could get used to it.

need to strip the drivers door again. The central locking ain't working from there. Works ok from the passenger door

First time that i've seen this thread, looks like mine did Crying or Very sad

was surprised to see a ghosted image of quattro on the rear doors, mine had that on but also had rings on the front doors thought someone had fitted them after buying it.

afaik s2/b4 front end should fit fine, I did bonnet/headlights but used a b3 bumper for my rs2 rep so just used my original crossmember.

Amazing work, I wish I had the know-how to tackle something like this. It's very sad to see that Sport in the condition it was in; an absolute shed.

Are the green mounts OEM or those Pro-Mounts I saw Audioc link to in another thread?

I think they're standard- he'll no doubt respond when he's back online later....

the Sport in quattro form, by the way- "official" figures are of 94. I think that maybe only half of them exist/ are road worthy.

I know Phil has 2 (in red)- one will get scrapped/ be used as a donor for the other he's gonna do as a nut and bolt restoration.

it was just standard mounts I fitted.

They're only £10 each so the cost of the pro mounts makes no sense

20v quattro sport. has accident damage, so only fit for stripping (I know the car history now)

With thanks to Nogin, this car now has a tubular manifold.

There was a broken stud on cylinder 5 which is what I thought was causing the slight tick. erm, not quite.... the old manifold had 2 cracks - almost all the way round. Pics to follow.

The manifold / heatshield and downpipe were and ebay bargain some time ago at £85 for all 3.

Challenges faced by Nogin and why I didn't do it myself

the broken stud - hole drilled in centre of stud. Torx bit hammered in and stud remains removed

heatshield mounting. the inlet manifold on the later cars doesn't have the threads for the heatshield mounting bolts. Eric drilled / tapped these for mounting the heatshield. also had to slightly elongate one of the heatshield holes to line up at the front of the inlet manifold.

lambda probe. tubular cars have the lambda probe up top while mine was in the catalyst and this is where it remains. It's only been in a year but it's in solid and ain't coming out. The boss has been blanked off for now.

airbox air feed. the air feed hose has to be routed differently due to the new heatshield having a different position for the hose. Was still able to use the original hose with the original airbox.

there is a small blow from the front which has become apparent. I suspect this is the join from downpipe -> manifold. I've found the correct gasket in my spares box to fit so this will be going on at the weekend

Have you noticed a difference in low down driveability?

That gasket was not for the job as we knew but worth a try, i normally use the Hammerite zorst paste, works a treat on that paticular flange even without a gasket Cool

Mike while your under there can you check the lambda probe wire is not flapping about in the breeze please as i dont recall securing it down below Embarassed

Mine had a stud gone on the rear cylinder and when it was being fixed found someone had already had a go at the rear cylinders studs so instead I took the head off and paid a company £24 quid for two inserts to be done, took around 5 mins and all sorted.

Yeah I hate that join from the manifold to downpipe, pain to get a decent seal on it.

it's definitely less lethargic at lower revs with the tubular. I'll hopefully fix the joint this weekend.
