Yep, with the 2x2 adapter they work. Not sure how much info you can get out of the older cars but some for sure. Vagcom - now vcds is by far the best and I don't regret getting it at all......and £50+ a scan at a dealer mine paid for itself in a year! |

I'm not having any luck getting this to work.
I have three plugs: brown, black & yellow.
The brown plug has 1 connection and the black and yellow have two connections each.
The black has power across it. If I connect my bulb across the black + - then the light comes on.
The light will also come on when connecting the single brown top connection and the bottom black connection (ignition on and off). I have tried a jumper wire across the top black and top yellow but no change to the light and no blinks. I tried all scenarios.
Any ideas ? ? |

Been covered before this.
NG engine is capable of dumping DTC's (though they are very few in number)
It's unique in that the engine has to be running when trying to pull them. Even more unique is that the ECU does not store them when the ignition is turned off. That's it, they are gone and it'll be like looking for an honest politician in the house of commons, ie none.
So, you need to go for a run in the car, get back to base and then pull codes BEFORE turning the engine off.
Try this page here >>> (Linky) for how to connect. Ignore the S2 bit, it's irrelevant in this case.

getting the car to run is a bit of hit and miss at the moment.
I followed the guide on the link you sent but it says the light should be off when the ignition is off. I can't get this scenario. The light is on all the time. |

In that case (car not running) consider if trying to pull codes is even worth it.
As said, the codes disappear as soon as engine is switched off. It might seem daft, but you gotta think engine diagnostic codes were in their infancy here.

You have to put a fuse in the fuel pump relay (the large grey relay in the main fusebox) that activate the diagnostic mode. you no your flogging a dead horse with this one! Fair play for trying but I don't think there's been one person that's had any joy! Maybe you'll be the first lol. The NG engine is relatively straight forward to fault find on good luck |

ok, I got my light to flash
getting
4 4 4 4
Is this a fault not recognised by ecu?
engine still not idling and stalling. Still getting no oil pressure and oil lamp flashing on centre dash

This is the code for "No fault found".
Have a look at http://www.20v.org/fault.htm Strictly it's for the 20v engine rather than the 10v, but I found the 20v fault codes to be a superset of the 10v codes.

have you tried all the basic tests first like checking for vacume leaks etc. The NG engine is notorious for its breather pipe to break down inside and suck in on itself. Maybe a blocked exhaust ( does it run fine when its on the move?). Worn butterflys in the throttle body? doesnt the auto have a throttle positioning sensor?
My old 2.3e wouldnt idle properly would hesitate under load, turned out the metering head was at fault |
