So the story begins a few weeks back when I went with a mate on scrappy run for parts for his chavmobile. Now, as soon as we get there my beady eye spots a B3 coupe, so I make a beeline for instead of what we went for Razz. At first glance I don't really think much, bit tatty but a shame to scrap it, as I get closer I see a 3 spoke steering wheel and am suddenly a bit more interested and a quick glance at the bootlid reveals a 20v badge, now I'm really interested Wink. A bit more of a nose around shows 111000 on the clock and an auto box Confused By this time it was time to grab the wheel cylinder we originally went for and off home to fit it, on the way out I ask the yard owner what the deal was with the coupe, tells me its for sale, runs but no test or tax, and that was that until a week later when an eBay search shows an auto 20v coupe for £1200 Shocked Bit steep I thought but could see a little money spinner coming on so a few inquires sees me heading up to the scrappers to pick up a 20v Coupe Laughing A few photos for Y'all below Smile






Right now for the issues.
Power steering pump leaked, now fixed.
Water in the footwells, not yet sure where this is coming from will investigate further at the weekend.
Electrics don't turn off when the ignition turns off, as in turn the key off and its as if the ignition is still on, suspect damp inside the key barrel?
Aux gauges not working quite right, voltmeter not reading (alternator is charging though) not sure what oil pressure and temp are reading as of yet haven't had a proper look.
Bulbs in the dash need replacing, easy fix.
So the original plan was to sort the issues and sell it on, make some money and do my bike test but having driven it, heard it and plonked it on some 17" alloys I have hanging around I now want to keep it Wink

So you took the plunge.

Water ingress can be a real problem on these. Is it in all the footwells or just the fronts ?

Bonnet cable, sunroof and door seals are the usual suspects. Also check the rear lights and spare wheel well

sounds like the ignition switch is failing or has already gone. think it will be a different part for an automatic so buy carefully.

If you're really unlucky the barrel spigot will be ready to break

Yeah I did, couldn't resist really Confused The water I'm 99% sure is coming from the sun roof (small dent behind the seal) or the top of the windscreen as there's a small amount of corrosion pushing the seal off a little bit, gunna try a temporary fix with silicone to eliminate one from the equation and see where we go from there, saves having the screen out just to find its the sunroof, as for the ignition, I don't think it is the barrel as swapped it for a known good one and was still the same (autos seem to be the same as manuals barrel wise)

So, about time for bit of an update, been real busy the last month so not too much has been done.
I have managed to find the leak, corrosion along the top of the screen is pushing the seal off the body work, have temporarily fixed it with some sika flex but obviously am going to have to get it sorted properly at some point.
Now the interior is finally dry I managed to give it a good clean out.



So yeah not perfect but much better than when I got it home. The dashlights are now rebulbed, and PAS pump is all on and working.
Works to do now are to sort the voltmeter, its seeing 14v on the pins but not reading anything so i think the needle is stuck possibly?
Check whine from engine, sounds like alternator bearings so have to eliminate/diagnose that, refurb 17" alloys and fit them.
No doubt I'll find something else in the meantime.

Right, it's been a while since I've updated this thread so I'll start by saying the car is now mot'd taxed and a lot of fun Very Happy
The Mot was bit of a pain with it failing on lack of servo assist. This caused some head scratching as to whether I keep the bomb or go vac assist and and make up some bracketry for a standard PAS pump.
The latter is what I opted for seeing as I had necessary parts for the conversion and would hopefully lead to trouble free motoring, also sorted Tyres and paint for some decent alloys and not the eye sore it rolled out the factory on. Shock
Any way here's a couple photos of what it looks like now, haven't got any under bonnet shots of the vac servo but you ask know what they look like! Laughing

spot on! how does the 7a engine feel with an auto box?

Personally i love the 20v on song at high revvs so i tend to boot mine about when i get the chance. i suspect its a slightly different animal with an auto?

Well obviously it's very hard not to give it a bootful every chance you get, it's hard to say for sure what the auto box is like as its currently a lumpy so gunna do a fluid and filter change and then see what it's like, also hard to compare it seeing as I haven't driven a 7a manual so until then I can only guess.

Cadan are you doing the gear box service your self? If so you need the oil warm, not hot, measure what comes out but don't try to pump oil thru the torque converter and oil cooler as all you'll do is cause problems. On filling up pour 1/2 to 3/4 of the amount of new atf into the filler before starting the engine, leave to idle for a minute or 2 and then select each gear and top up as necessary, this link may help http://auto.howstuffworks.com/under-the-hood/vehicle-maintenance/change-transmission-fluid.htm

Hi Daz, yes i will be doing the fluid change myself, i have a manual for it at home and was assuming that the correct procedure would be detailed in there, however i will cross reference with the guide you posted to ensure everything is correct.
Also I went for a blast on sunday and it felt a lot less jerky so maybe its just because its been sat for a month or two, I don't know that much about auto boxes so am just speculating and will do an fluid change just as a matter of cheap insurance.

1 that I've always been taught with auto boxes, every now and then to clear the hydraulic valves thru and to keep the box working as it should is from cold drive off in 1st gear then select 2nd for a short period, 3rd and so on and then you can drive normally after that
