Anyone enlighten me as to what ballpark figure I should be paying for a big long life service for my A4 B6 2.5tdi Quattro at an Audi specialist (not dealership) ?

Well I've got it booked into local specialist who had previously done my timing belt, retrofitted cruise control and some other jobs and the cost is 245. It was cheaper for the smaller engined A4's

All depends on what you mean by "big" service.

Minimum is oil and filter - my garage does that for approx 60, your 2.5 needs more oil, so make that 90?
If you use long life oil then it will be more as that stuff is more expensive - I would advice against that, I change oil every 10k miles.

Then there is stuff like:
pollen filter
fuel filter
air filter
All relatively cheap and easy to change, add 75 to 100 for that - I only change these every 20K miles.

Then you may want to check your brakes:
wheels off, take out pads, check, clean, refit, wheels back on and check tyres (pressure/wear) at the same time.
add another 50 for that, assuming nothing needs replacing - I do this every 10 K miles.
replace brake fluid (every 2 years) - 75

Then all the other checks:
wipers
lights
door hinges
fluid levels
test drive
etc
Add 25 for that, you should be able to do these yourselves, but a good garage will include these in a "big" service.

So we are at 250 to 350 for a good "big" service depending on what needs done at an independent (charging 40-50/hr)

Good luck

260 odd is about right, a little high, but not too bad.

A full oil and filters changed plus an inspection would require just shy of two hours labour plus the parts.

A V6 diesel requires around 6.5 litres of oil, then add around 75 for the filters assuming you use OE parts.

I would charge 75 - 80 labour on this.

Oil would be around 26 - 30 depending on quality and brand of oil, but VAG 'Platinum' oil would cost around 30 ISH.
