You will know that I have changed my Audis a few times over recent years, always with a good reason at the time, but often with some regret. List goes:
Audi Coupe 2.6e - sold as too slow lol
Audi A4 Avant 2.8quattro (AKA REBEL SHIP)- rapid but expensive to run for 100miles+ a day, I really liked this one
Audi Coupe quattro 10v (AKA JABBA) - gorgeous but tempramental
Audi 80 saloon 2.0e - (AKA TROOPER) still have this, like it but.....
A mechanical hickup with the 80 last week led to a work colleague mentioning that his neighbour was selling his 20 year old audi quattro. A phone call later and I'm buying my new project, project ODBALL here she is photographed by world renowned audi fashion photographer Andy Bowskill:
Breaking away with the Star Wars car naming tradition this 90 has been named "Odball", a number of reasons why, here goes:
No lecky front windows - we thought all 90s had these
No lecky rear windows (although not standard for early models)
No rear speakers - weird
Black rear parcel shelf - nice
Dark chocolate/black velour interior
We think it has a Tubular Manifold - difficult to see but fingers crossed
Factory lowered
Sport wishbones
And, yes the colour........ Code is LY5E, reference ADAMELLO BLUE - SOLID...........it's not primer lol.... marmite colour is this one
The car has 134k on the clock, only covering maybe 8,000 in the last 5 to 6 years. Well maintained with good history. The car was first registered with VAG UK, then sold through Audi in Leeds, and was last sold from Pentraeth Audi (just 2 minute drive from my house lol) Last owner has had it for 15 years and lived in Denbighshire N Wales. I think its only done small runs but I let it stretch its legs to Tamworth and back yesterday/today and I think it benefitted from it. The previous owner realy liked this car and was sorry to see it go but good for me
Oddbal needs a service, engine misses a bit under load, but when it does eventually catch, wow it goes and the noise, pure magic and grin inducing A visit to Nogsports is needed to see the master work his magic on her
It needs some additional work doing to it. Inside is nearly mint bar a small L shape rip in the drivers seat - pance . Needs driver side wing, chrome strip in the front bumper re-fixed, lower door plastic sills replaced, change of alloys as current ones are shot, good buffing all over especially the bonnet and key scratch on rear passenger door treated. Otherwise the panels are OK, not mint but hey its 4 months away from its 20th birthday.
Mods, simple euro style. I'm not going to lower her anymore than she already is, but I'd like to source some BBS for her, 16" if poss. Kamei debadged grille I have (cheers Andy) and clear indicators front and sides. I'll try to graft my RS2 panel onto the back, if not then the lights will be tinted all red. Door handles to be colour coodrinated, new aerial, three spoke steering wheel (from the sick 80) and new head unit. I will also be searching for a stainless steel exhaust DTM is poss.
Will keep you posted on developments and will post more pics soon

Dyl, I honestly do believe that is the strangest colour car I've ever seen! Eric showed me a pic of it the other day, and I thought it was cos I was stood in the light, but... erm... unique!

Dunno about the 80 yet G, I like the way it looks now, but the 20v has already taken over lol its flippin amazing
Will probably swap bits over from the 80 to the 90 (alloys etc) and then flog the 80 on...... probably, would be good if someone could finish the project off.............wife will decide no doubt
Will be up when Nogsports has a window of opportunity lol......soon I hope |

I found with my 20v quattro sport a decent cone filter made a big difference in freeing up power and sound from the engine, we actually removed the rear box and had the exhaust straight thru to the back but there was not much of a change, all noise from the engine and not the back.
There's a vid on here of it but think I have it saved somewhere else as well.
when you say rs2 panel do you mean the flat one where the numberplate goes? if so think that would fit in place of whats there now but you'd need to move the plate somewhere. I'd leave it as it is atm tbh.
And with regards to the rear lights you can get the full red one's easy enough off the bay etc, thats all I did with mine (iirc £30 posted for a pair) |

Ask Paulgo what the cone filter on his 7A sounded like
I can only liken it to a cow in labour......MOOOOOOOoooooooOOOOOOoooooOOOOOOoooooo.
I love that Dyl, unusually colours are a great talking point at shows. Although you may get sick of the amount of times people are going to ask, "what colour did you get it sprayed mate?" |

I agree, it's a fabs colour. I think Jase is right about the 'what colour did you get it sprayed' thing as I get that on mine |

bizarre colour, almost like the exposure is wrong, quite like it makes you look twice. on the power its highly addictive! Suspect you will have the same knock sensor issues i have, when it gets warm very tempramental, and above 5000rpm it takes off, waarrrrrrmmmmmmm followed by ggrrrriiiinnnnn. I wish i was closer to nogsport i feel its holding me back just now, or rather my lack of ability is.
reading through sounds like we are in the same place, although the clutch just went on mine this afternoon and i have to be towed home by the RAC... arse...
It looks very clean for what you paid.. as mentioned previously....

Dyl, remember when you got that de-badged grille for the 80 and I couldn't find the UK seller? Amazing how you can never find something when you are looking, but then trip over it when you aren't
Found the site, they do one for the B3 front grille too.

would it not be easier just getting a v6 bumper as i would imagine the holes are quite big for the washer jets if not get the placcy weld out |

Cheers for the comments guys Good find Jase, lovely pics but delivery for her to expensive..........
The 80 still drives well, looks good lowered and is great allrounder, now has 16" alloys which wouldnt fit the 90 (although the tyres need changing). It needs a temp sensor as light is flashing on dash even though theres plenty of water. Theres a bit of white smoke when you start her up from cold, but body is really good and she would make a good project to finish, will be selling her soon, has tax till end of month and mot till june I think...need to check. Would like £50,000 but would take £300 lol
Anyway back to the 90, took some photos today, just need to upload them here. Have looked on number of eurpoean Audi web sites to get a proper idea of what Euro will mean for the 90. Most have standard bodywork bar merc slots in driver wing, and slammed to hell with BBS alloys.
So, I wont be changing panels or bumpers this time, actualy all I want to do on the outside is get it looking fresh again, replace the wing, most of the plastic trim and get the bumpers to sit flush again - mostly I want to give the car a good going over with a polisher cos I dont think its been polished in over 15 years lol |

Not really had much time to work on oddball but have been driving it a lot and even with current engine issues its still a proper drivers car
Some mobile phone snaps I took recently just to show her from different angles:
I cant find any record of the car being lowered, not sure if its to low for stock audi suspension (never quite sure how much lower the Audi sport option was) Anyway it helps handling a lot even if the ride is a tad harsh which I dont mind
This is the wing that needs to be replaced sometime in the future. It was bashed against a gate post by the pevious owner
The passenger side fog light and indicator lens have been replaced, I still need to take the bumper off to sort out the chrome trim which has popped out, the bumper keeps coming off its mount on the driver side wing also so this will need sorting. I have a kamei grille to replace the standard version, just need to transfer the quattro badge over to it.
On the inside, before:
and after

i bought a 3 spoke as well! But the car isnt here
front wings look much like mine too! Ride height, it does look low about the same as my 90, kind of crawl to get out, depends on your personal stature i suppose!
Will be nice to run in parallel here. bought any clear side repeaters yet? |

I've got the clear indicators set, but decided to do the car up in one go (as soon as wings and few knocks are sorted) which will mean debading, all indicators, grille, alloys and exhaust all done at once. Just need to get the RS2 rear centre panel to fit which is a bit of a pain |
