Full cambelt service in a couple of weeks time along with the water pump, a recon alternator will also be fitted as the one on there at the mo has drove me mad rattling
Any suggestions as to what else could be worth servicing while the belts are done ?
Headlining is going to be ripped out and redone in a more smoker friendly grey or black (with lots of pics)
Also found a place that will fabricate 2 new downpipes for me out of stainless as I've developed a hole in one of my existing ones !
Typical, the last part of my whole system that wasn't stainless and someone has been there and decatted but with steel pipes
Still have a complete MINT coupe cloth(blue) interior for sale if anyone's interested (shameless plug )

Got my box of 'goodies' to go on
Car dropped off at my mechanics, should get her back next week some time and hopefully cure the overheating problem at the same time

Grrrr ! Got my car up to my mechanics Sat (eventually) after the recovery firm sent a specticle lift again (2nd time) !
Got a phone call today from my mechanic " hello chris, this is the WRONG Cambelt kit and it will not fit your car "
Considering I bought this almost 2 months ago I had to do some digging but finally managed to find a telephone number of the suppliers (ebay buy) ! Yes they said you have the wrong kit because you did not give us the registration number !
Hold on I said you never asked for it and on your ad the description clearly states WILL fit engine code AAH, year of manufacture 1992 !
No problem he said we will send you another but we want £100 deposit, refundable when we get the part back that we have incorrectly supplied the first time
Rant over !

Which seller was that?
I won't buy anything engine related from ebay for my car unless it's cross referenced with an Audi part number.

Blimey what a week My 'goodies' box was obviously not big enough !
List of parts is
Cambelt (eventually the right one)
Tensioner
Pulley
Alternator drive belt
Re-con Alternator
Oil Cooler seal
Thermo switch
Thermostat and gasket
Water pump
4ltrs G12+
+
Radiator was sent off for complete flush and check, it came back ok but its on its way out (not bad for nearly 20 years )
And one rather crusty coolant pipe replaced
In my efforts to save money (I'm like that ) I have managed to track down a re-con radiater supplied for £140 ! Result

I can beat that, my radiator was £10 brand new! It was listed on ebay by just the part number and had no picture, I got it for the starting price.

Bargain I'm not complaining at £140 though because it is a big radiator !
Cheapest I could find on the 'bay' was £260 !

Back on the road again ! Whoop ! Whooop !
My oil pressure at idle seems to have improved too, maybe this was something to do with the leak from the oil cooler housing
First job next year is to get my downpipes sorted and a new rad.
I know the S2 boys and turboed cars benefit from having larger than OE downpipes so would I benefit from having mine made slightly larger when I get these replaced ??
Now wheres that smiley that does cartwheels

That looks like a trip computer with minicheck, you are going to have some issues fitting that as your car has autocheck.
I made my own loom for the trip computer part, I expect with the number of S2s being broken at the moment you will have no problem finding one though.

Damn I never noticed that
Am I right in thinking it was only the V6's (and the S2 white ones) that had the 160mph clocks ? That would mean these spare clocks did indeed come from a V6 ! I could then change the lot over rather than stripping down both of them, but I'm not that keen on altering the mileometer reading from original !
Before I even get to that there is the little problem of removing the steering cowling ! My immobilizer socket was installed there by a previous owner so they decided to use snap off bolts to secure the cowling Found this out when I done the mod for the ellipsoids !

No that's not right, just found a 2.0 16v dash with 160 mph clocks !

You definitely want to swap just the computer part over as it will keep your mileage correct and you know everything will read correctly. The problem you are going to have is that your car has a 26 pin plug which connects to the autocheck module. The trip computer with minicheck will have a 14 pin plug. Even if you got the 14 pin plug and wired it up in place of the 26 pin plug, not all the functions would work. Furthermore, you would be losing all the autocheck functions such as bulb monitoring, washer fluid level etc. It might depend if you want the trip computer more than you want autocheck, but it is still a lot of work. You really need a trip computer with autocheck.

Cheers Matt, I had a feeling this would not be easy
I'm going to sell this one on and look for a more compatible unit I think.
I still have plenty of other things to do to stop me from getting bored
Once xmas is out of the way I really need to fit that HID kit I have been promising myself ! Along with fixing my drooping headlining, tracing my 'new' boot leak
And fitting a nice bit of kit to the rear end

Not much of an update because I haven't actually done a lot
(been too busy driving and having fun) !
New thermo switch fitted as the last one gave up the ghost after a mere 2 months ! Still need to buy a couple of coolant pipes as I have a trickle of coolant leaking
Purchased some 15mm spacers from that very nice man Bambridge on the S2 forum but need some bigger ones to achieve the look I want.
Got a few bits and bobs to fit when I get round to it.
But particularly happy with these
A steal at £20
MOT booked today.....and a pass
Got one of the new style MOT certificates with advisories inclusive ! First time in 5 years I've had advisories and this was for feathering on the inside of both front tyres ! (thanks to the last garage not doing my 4 wheel alignment properly)

What made you buy Magnecor ?
Serious question based on feedback I've seen on other forums.

My old leads were brittle and split Mike.
These came my way at a virtually give away price !
I did read that some people had issues with these leads but that was with forced induction engines. When used on NA engines these seem to perform quite well.
Works well for me and a slightly noticeable improvement
