Hi all.
Any one know where I can get a new catch for my hardtop?
Not the actual fixing kit, it's one of the locking catches bolted to the hardtop frame.
The one that slots into the fixing kit on the body and is then turned with a 10mm spanner to tighten the top to the car body.
One of mine has sheared, so the rear isn't held down as much as it should be.
Happy that the top is secure because of the other three fixing points, but there is an increase in wind noise, which is a pain, and water is finding it's way in through my window (only slightly though)
Tried looking on German ebay, but not sure what exactly i'm looking for. Confused
Would they still be available at dealers?

If its the bit that part 17 screws into then you might struggle to get it as a seperate part.

You should be able to buy part 16.
Don't quote me but - Locking Spigot Part Number 8G0 817 217
I would just get it welded as it will be about £100 knowing Audi.

Hi Ian, let me know how you get on in your quest for this part, as I have a problem with my N/S bayonet fitting, and knowing it's availability would be much appreciated.
Cheers, Jon.

They can be welded, I sold a hardtop and as I was fitting it to the buyer's car the same happened and the top nut on one of the rear posts sheared off which left me a little red faced and so offered a discount Embarassed . Luckily the buyer informed me he knew a welder and later on said he got it welded back on. He emailed me just recently to say he fitted the hardtop without any problems and all was well. Smile

To be honest, I'd pay that, as I'm currently using a "home-made" effort, which works perfectly well, but at the end of the day, isn't the real thing, and can be a bit of a bugger to tighten up!

hi Fast28.
don't suppose you could mail him back and ask him how, who, where and how much??

I may be able to send it to them through the mail to be repaired

Ian

just thinking....

Would anyone have a link to buying parts direct from Audi in Germany? Or has anyone done it before?
Perhaps they'll be cheaper at source?

I think the hard top is more trouble than it's worth. I had one on my BMW 330 Convertible years ago and whilst the car looked great in the winter with it on, you missed having the hood down on those lovely sunny winter days and it was a pain in the backside getting it off the car and storing it in the winter.

I wouldn't bother again.
