is that a straight swap do you know gav? I have heard this a few times but not heard from anyone who has actually done it!

I've got all the parts waiting to bolt on...Focus RS discs 324mm diameter/28mm thick and using some Brembo 4 pot calipers from a BMW 740i of all things! The best thing is the BMW calipers also use 324mm discs. I got a friend at work to machine some brackets from bright mild steel. I've trial fitted them and everything looks good, brake lines were sorted in the way of rear Cq Goodridge braided lines. The only thing using the RS discs is that I need 20mm spacers so that my wheels clear the calipers. Using Porsche calipers you would have to have custom brackets also as the offset of the Focus discs is not the same as the A8 discs commonly used in the conversion, there's a 6.3mm difference

@ ISTOO: are they going to be necessary? Similar brake set up on the S2 running 230+ bhp; 20v is likely to be pushing 200bhp; and upgrade on pads will probably suffice for "normal" driving - even spirited...

You could spend as much on brake upgrades as it cost for the car Rolling Eyes

I wouldn't really bother with a brake upgrade unless you plan to use the car on a track or the power/weight of a car has dramatically altered. Trouble with the Girling G60s is that they are great heavy blocks of cast iron that once they get hot they hold the heat (you know the old Victorian cast iron radiators - same principle).

@ ISTOO, I will put up a separate post about the brakes, got my 20mm spacers adapted to fit my wheels today so I can take a few photos of the parts this week. Smile

As said, the brakes on the 90q 20v are more than adequate.

Even track work at the Nurburgring didn't stress them too much.

Decent fluid and grooved discs were the only change

That's another alternative - Those Tarox discs I got off you were good.

I just liked the feel of the Porsche 4 pots!

Lost my favourite brake fluid now too that LSUK has closed Sad

i did mallory park track in my s2 with brembo brakes and ebc green stuff pads and they were ok not brilliant but it was a hot day and it was track work so i reckon owen could easily get away with them.

on another note what about an audi tt setup? ive heard of them sure there around the 300 mark but no 4 pot calipers so i would imagine its a lot cheaper upgrade. Question Wink

The G60's with Pagid fast road pads and Lucas DOT 5.1 were Ok on the CQ20V, even on track. It's just a personal thing and I liked the firm pedal when I had the 4 pots on the S2 - very reassuring. Very Happy

As with most things, will see how it goes.

If you want to use the porshe callipers you could re drill a set of 314 a8 discs and use a set of carriers to match (£110 for the carriers) or do you want a bolt on disc with no machining each time? Other thing would be how much space is there inside the 16" competition wheels as the porsche/314 setup clears the 16" avus wheels but not the earlier 3b 16s.

I found the g60s good in general, however if you drove like a loony you could wipe them out very quickly and would have to wait a bit for them to cool again, however that is not normal road driving.

I had 993 calipers on the S2 with Avus and they were OK. Good point about the competition wheels though, as you say, may not give enough clearance.

I don't want to redrill discs as would be worried about weakening them. I will most likely use G60's but may look for grooved discs with some better pads. Will need to find a replacement for Lucas DOT 5.1 though.

Update:

Insurance is all sorted now with Sky (Cheers Hibby) and the car's been SORN'd (MOT and Tax out end of Feb).

However, spoke to Nog this week and things are progressing. Have not asked for a time for completion as I don't want one - it will be done when it's done and will be well worth any wait! Very Happy

If anyone would like to donate some kleenex then I would be grateful coz I think I'll need it when I get this baby! Laughing

LOL - Just got rid of one funnily enough!

Spoke to Nog last week so all being well work will now have started. However, not asked for a deadline as I know how busy Nog and Megsy are so it will be done when it's done.

Still, hard not to get excited about have quattro and 5 pot tunes again! Very Happy

Update on this - the work is complete (with a few extras) and the car is MOT'd and taxed. Will be collecting this weekend.

Not been this excited about a car in ages.

Thanks hugely to Nogin , Megsy and Al, it's mechanically sorted.

Massive thanks to to Dylan (engine etc.) and Al (V6) for helping with the sale.

Happy Daze are nearly here! Very Happy

Wise words indeed Chris - I will have to remember that it will have significantly more grunt than Project Titan.

Guess I'll just have to drive it more till I get used to it Very Happy

What a day - Up at 5:30 and away with my wife kindly driving me down to collect my new steed.

Greeted by Nog who went over the car showing me what had been done - I was pretty much speechless by this point Very Happy

Sue then arrived and made some of her excellent stew - Thank you - that really is top notch that! Wink

Bez and Megsy then arrived and what was a two hour visit turned to about 5 hrs Laughing

A quick blast to the fuel station with Nog at the wheel and the goosebumps haven't gone down yet.

Return to Nogsport for a quick brew then we headed back - 270 absolutely enjoyable miles. Car did 230 miles to half a tank too which I was impressed with.

Took a few pics and a bit of video footage (more for the sound) but they will have to wait till tomorrow as knackered now.

I cannot thank Eric, Chris and Allan enough - it's a first class job and only those in the know would tell it wasn't OEM.

Happy Daze are here for sure!! Very Happy Wink
