Well the 80 is now on the back burner, rescued this

Its a 92 S2 needing a bit of work

Went with noel to help strip it an ended up coming back with it Laughing

Got it home so a couple more piks

Progress wont be fast, will just fix it an pick up the bits as I get the time and money, should be nice when finished.

that is an ex audi car, just checked the reg. maybe one of the first to hit the road, "not literally" you need to find someone who has VW Audi driver magazines from back then, because im sure ive seen it before as a road test car?

If you can be bothered to come down and collect it I have a coupe shell which would provide most of your panels!

I've got that issue still lying around, same year and colour car, I'll have to check the car in the pictures and article. If I remember the article was named "S2... Affordable Supercar?" It was stated as one of the first S2 cars to be imported.. Cool

Oliver, thanks for the offer, but its too far and have managed to source bits localy.

Quick question as I am hopefully giong to get a coupe door/wing tomorrow, are normal coupe (will be a 16v) and s2 rear bumpers different?

The magazine stuff would be interesting if you wouldnt mind digging it out.

Thanks gav

As far as engine swaps go I am 19 and cant insure them, however a standard s2 is ok-ish

A s2 saloon would be awesome, but just not feasible at the moment I am afraid.

a converted s2 saloon shouldnt be any more to insure than a normal s2? the insurance is based on the car the engine came from

Early S2s were all on H plates. H130YVV through to H140YVV were the press cars all in Emerald green. The first 50 UK cars were all the same colour

Started on the car today after work, went over the underside, not really much damage at all, a few of 2p sizes holes in the inderseal, no deformation, couple of scrapes on the exhaust but again not deformed, no broken/cracked mounts.

Got the front wing off, 2 of the stupid nuts spun, sorted fairly quick though. Got the damaged crossmember off, offered up an undamaged one, ns fr corner is not too bent, will be able to straighten it when i get the car back on the ground, adjusted and strightened a couple of little bits. Need to sort a cople of bits of damaged wiring so will be getting some soldering practice. Sorted the alternator, just going to strip down the adjusment system and grease it up.

Will need to make space in the garage so i can start painting.

So now

More questions

where should this thin black vac line go?

What should this nipple on the wastegate be connected to?

and this tube coming out the maf to turbo hose?

Still need to pick up; an oil cooler, nsr light, ecu, clocks (will stick in a 90 set to get the car mobile), rear diff bush, stalks. Get paid soon so will hopefully pick up the rest of the bits to finish it off, then its time to start work on the rear quarter.

Can you access the outer skin of the rear quarter from inside the car?

Andy

More bits have arrived and was up at Steve's again raiding his parts supply:lol:

Got some work done today despite the weather.

Pulled nsf straight
Reshaped various parts
Fitted crossmember/intercooler
Fitted boost hoses
Fitted airbox/maf
Fitted ecu
Replaced oil cooler/hoses
Sorted wiring for headlights/indicators
Fitted dash clocks (10v ones)
changed indicator stalks
Fitted headlights-non projector

Started car!!! Was great to hear it run! Very Happy

Couple of piks

Then to make me feel happy hung this on

(arrived the other day from gav:thumbs:)

My ellipsoids that were bought for my 80, now destined for the s2 arrived yesterday along with the intercooler, however

So a new lens will be sorted soon. Just annoying that they were damaged as they were wrapped in bubblewrap, a good few layers thick, in a box with polystyrene sheets and the box was wrapped in fragile tape and still damaged:irk:

Need to sort the window washers, pump works if electricity is supplied direct, however not off the stalks so will need to find out if i have missed a damaged bit of loom.

getting there!

thanks for the various pieces of advice

Andy

Thanks. Its getting there, cant wait to be able to drive it though.

RE insurance-ehhh want to buy an 80 quattro? Laughing
Its gona be expensive, but not that bad considering the cars performance Very Happy Only thing is a few of the companies will not insure drivers under 25 on it Confused so i cant swap it onto my current insurance. Found a good thing, if i add my mother as a second driver it saves me £400 Shocked so well worth doing even if she doesnt use it.

Thanks Istoo, not as quick as I would like but I am trying to be sensible and prioritise my degree over the car Rolling Eyes

Picked up an undamaged v6 bumper in green, complete with grills.

And also a wing in green

So that will save me some painting and I will have to buy less paint.
Also got a few goodies from Noel a while back, including a pair of foglights.
Now have enough to get the whole front of the car assembled properly, just counting down till uni finishes/all my essays are done. :irk:

To do, hopefully over christmas

Assemble front-all parts got
Fit new door/touch up paint-got door
Spray and fit new rear bumper-got bumper
fit new ns rr light-got
pull rear quarter/back-to be done:look:
spray rr quarter
re seal rr lights
new rr diff bush

After christmas
MOT
VIC
Insurance
Tax
Alingment
DRIVE:rock:

Not much progress, started taking the interior out this afternoon to access panels and dry the car out. Stripped out the boot as well. The rear lights are letting water into the boot and something is letting water into the drivers footwell. Rear lights are an easy fix, just hope the other leak is sunroof drains/car doesnt like being pointed uphill on jackstands for months.

Still need to take out the carpet-do you need to remove part of the dash or cut it under the dash?

And figure out how the rear seat backs come out?

Lots of sound deadening all over the place when you start taking stuff off.

Think I might make up some kind of removable rear strut brace whilst I have the back apart, got a couple of ideas.

join the club, i haven't been able to get mine garaged since i picked up a 'new' interior. was fine up until last week when i moved it to a different spot outside the house (more sloping), burst of rain and a couple of days later the footwell is sodden and a good inch of water in it along with the headlining being soggy round the sunroof!

good progress though m8, wish i had the skills and space to do mine quicker!

you can get the carpet out without cutting it.

It slides out under the heater ducts once everything else is out the way
