Thanks for that Istoo, ill give that a try! 
I didnt adjust the valve seat sizes, just the valve guide O/D's as all aftermarket items come too large for some reason.
OEM's are sized 12.05mm aftermarkets at 12.07mm which creates distortion in guide alignment when theyre pressed in so i reduce them to the oem specs and lose the problem.
Another problem i found is the guide bore that the stem passes thru, these were too large so that even after the guides were pressed in unmodified (in too large state) there was too much clearance at the stem, and that was before guide honing so they wernt useable. |

I'd be surprised if it's valve timing unless there has been some cam / Tappet work done previously
Interesting how the peak power was at less than 5500rpm. should be at 6k.
it's not running lean is it ? |

how can it only be 145bhp??? you car seems quite rapid to me!
this makes me shy away from sticking mine on a RR and seeing only double figures 
Ive been to Stealth racing before when i had a Scirocco GTX. Vince did some work on it and it flew after that. they do seem to know what they are talking about and were very helpful in general. good blokes. |

The lump in the car is from Alan's old Coupe Quattro and Eric isnt 100% that the top end hasnt been apart in the time it spent in his stores. Something else i thought of and discussed with Eric was if the cams had been out of that lump had they been swapped for an S2. Its something else to check off the list when the valve timing is checked.
My mate will obviously check the cam belt to start. If that is right he's going in to check the cams are aligned properly, i'll also ask him to check the cams are in fact the correct ones! Is there any noticable way of identifying between the 7a and S2 cams? i'm guessing measuring with a micrometer?
If everything is right with the valve timing then i'm stumped as to why its lost so much power.. I'll know more on Tuesday.. |
It's all coming back to me Darryl, it's hard to keep track with the number of 7A's that have come my way.
But as I originally suggested, the possibility of the cams being incorrect (non 7A) is high + I dont think they were timed to each other cos at the time the car was never going back on the road we just wanted the engine running again. This has been much on my mind and I'm 100% convinced now, sorry for the massive inconvenience here pal, you will be well compensated for this as soon as is poss
The biggest killer about all this is the "one cam man's"poking fun of it only being slightly better than a standard one cam It's not all bad though because when your running a Schrick or Kent Camshaft without a Vernier pully on a dinosaur of a lump , you can be out dragged by Mr Bean's Mini and have the fuel consumption of a 4.2 Range Rover V8 |
