TAX, evil word! Not a fan of that either!
Slow money tell me about it, try working with oil companies who make billions and take 100+ days to pay. now thats crippling... |

You've only got one of the knock sensors disconnected in that picture up there.
The connectors are blue and green. The white one is for flywheel timing |

funny you say that, that's what i tried first time going on the VAGCAT diagram but it wouldn't turn over at all with both disconnected... or have i just answered my own question?
will try it with white disconnected only and see whats up. |

with the white one disconnected, it shouldn't start.
Disconnect blue and green and it should run fine as the knock sensors are not used for the starting sequence |

sorry i was ahead of myself there. the front two disconnected it goes, with the green and blue disconnected it just turned the starter motor round.
It was the green i tried first and it ran. So then switched off, unclipped the blue then went to start again, nothing just turned over no firing of cylinders. So reconnect. tey with just green no problem. looked at diagram again and tried with white disconnected and it went. So i assumed that was right, although the VAGCAT refers to a different set of colours all together more fustratingly.
However, i will try with the blue disconnected on its own and see whats up, if it was faulty could that be a/the problem here mike. Sorry for being daft, as you know i am a thicky. |

My recommendation:
Pull the codes
I wouldn't run the car with knock sensors disconnected, or any other sensor for that matter. |

OK, only running to see if it is the cause.. I literally tried it with the sensors for 10-15 minutes before reconnecting. But agree if they are not the fault they are holding back from some other cause of knock, thus saving a bigger issue.
must find a 2x2 adaptor or user soon! Do dealerships read codes for you or would they charge the earth? |

latest fun...
nipped to a cleints office today to drop of some animations... and open the door jumped in shut the door. clunk, "what the f.... was that?" open door, open door, open door... nope. No weight in the door handle at all. So i am guessing the that will have been the cable popping out from the handle. great...
I have taken the door apart a few times and know that it needs to be open to get the card off, any suggestions? bearing in mind i CANT open the door! |

Call the locks a blip, back out the next morning and its been fine purposefully opened and closed this a dozen times extra and there is no problem. Seems really odd, felt exactly like the pull cable on the inside being disconnected (i did this with my spares car)
update:
The revival is still ongoing despite a near fatal blip recently. She will be heading to our favourite 7A gathering point and resting there for some time until Nogin can spend some quality time with her and get her back on form. Gompa not to discount has done a sterling job with the wings and will replacing these to marry back in, for those that don't know the sports wings differ from the normal 90 the bump strip is a lot thinner. The wings themselves are identical though.
I bought this car to learn and play on but i couldn't predict how the worlds finances would change for the long term when i did this! So its taken a lot longer than planned. I no longer have the free time so i have accumulated some cash for the talented ones to help me get this back up to scratch. I expect to get it back next year and working fully.
At the moment i have put 5000 miles on it since i was at Nogsport. for commuting its actually a pleasant car to drive, the tubular manifold has made it feel much torquier low down and very usable through traffic. Will give it a wash before making the 400 mile trip down the road. If time permits and MikeS2 isnt sleeping i maybe popping in there to get the fault codes read from the 90.
More interesting, is what i most likely will have for the drive back up... and as my daily car |

update:
17:10:09
Off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Nog... The 90 drove me painlessly down to Nogsport after setting off at 0500. I did plant to stop in past MikeS2 on the way down and get the car diagnostics scanned. Timing was critical for the day as i had another purpose for this trip. So i decided against it, as it transpired i did make very good time on the wayt down and the 90 behaved impecabbly. She went better than normal, although when i fiulled the tank in Aberdeen Sainsburys super unleaded was a penny dearer. Figuring it was 380 miles to Nogins a full tank would give the injectors a bloody good clean! So i do think it did some good.
Arrived Nogins at 1100, closely followed by Al and a few others, a few brews and natters and we headed off for the second phase of my trip...
The 90 will be gettign some TLC from the Nogin Audi Revitalising Home for a wee while to get he wings on by herr Gompa, the suspension and engine running issues sorted. And thus end up with the car i want! See my new thread project Giant.... however the 90 still beats it for audio experience, the 7A really does sound THAT good. |
