I agree with what I think Gav is politely saying here. A project threasd NEEDS pics.
You have done so much work to this car and seem to get very little response. Purely down to no pics I think.
Sorry, I hope you dont think I am being a...
but pics really do brighten up a post |

hint taken
I've just borrowed my old boss's camera to go outside for you lot
My camera's up at my parents iirc.
I've just been sorting out with a mate, hopefully I will be getting this fitted on friday providing he's not lazy and helps me
Was a cheap ebay christmas present, £23 ish delivered universal twin exhaust which I think should look quite nice on the back and suit the style of the car, I love the fact that its painted in the same sort of black crackle paint most people use for the cam covers and its a nice size bore the whole way thru the box.
Thats a quick picture of the HKS boost gauge, its quite nice and I like the fact that the needle is more steady than my last one was. It lights up a light blue with red needle and has confirmed that I think mine's either got a boost leak still or the actuator is getting weak as i'm getting on average 0.8 bar sometimes 0.85 for a few seconds instead of the 1 bar that afaik is the factory average.
bit dark to get a shot of the front, I have left the standard lights on it instead of the smoked one's till I get the 5 studs on so it looks the part.
I am getting a lot of parts sent down to me on sunday so there should be a few updates after that, and yes that will be including pics
sorry for the rubbish quality of the pictures my excuses are:
a)not my camera so not 100% on how it works
b)its cold
hope people are enjoying my progress with the car which unfortunately is going quicker than my progress with the s2 |

cheers.
The s2 is just going to be expensive
can't wait till sun/mon and getting all the bits for the car, should be quite interesting.
My mates offered to spray the car for free providing I prep and buy the paint so might take him up on that whilst i'm off in feb/march. |

Well you got your one wish and I got some pictures (next wish might be that it gets another clean , I cleaned it in herts last tues when I was there)
I think the pipes suit the rear bumper quite well
I've got the indicators on order as the one's that are on there now are just tinted by me to match the rear panel and not the best results (slightly red in certain lights/under camera's)
Still can't get the boost gauge to take a good picture, just reflects too much even with the flash off
still at least i'm filling up the switch rail below it with heated seat switches etc (robbed the loom for the s2 build so got to get another set for that)

getting there slowly, i've got s2 doors with the correct trim to go on there which just needs spraying and the s8's and brembo's which should make a difference.
I just need to source a cheap set of 15mm spacers front/rear then i'll get them on.
Inside got s2 dials/steering wheel/center dials so that looks more the part, i'm just trying to source the trip computer section for the middle, same as what jas has fitted to sooty. I've got to fit the stalk and wiring which I have now but have not had a chance to wire in/fit.
also now have full genuine carbon (on the mint v6 dash I fitted) along with genuine rs2 front/rear door triggers. |

also changed the air filter on the car, the old one was damaged as we found out when me and fitzy changed the vac pipes. Since driving home i've managed to get the car to hit 1 bar in the lower gears which is a bonus, seems to drive better. |

Prime time! Bummer.
Regarding your S2 dials, how does the speedo calibrate? I always thought that the TDi ones and the 4 cylinder petrol cars had different speedos in with the MPH increasing in different areas, this would surely give a false reading on speed, or am i, as usual, wrong?
Looking nice now pal, can't wait to see it with the S8's on!

Try to fill the battery up, and loose some high pressure pipes and turn the key untill the bubbles go out. You can loose at the pump side and the injection side as well... If the problem is big, you could get a manual ac pump for the return pipe from the diesel pump and get the air out from the pump, cause that is the problem. Dont try by mouth it's just not gonna happen. Been there done that...
The project nicely coming along! Fingers crossed for |

No you aren't wrong Si.
The rev counter is wrong too, TDi redlines at 5200rpm, not 7000rpm.
Car has come on lots, but sorry, I have to say some things are taking looks over function
If you want white dials (sorry, light gray) to match the look of the S2, do it right and get some made.
Get a spare set of "TDi" clocks, remove the dial faces and get some made.
Not as expensive as you think
Pete, get that vent sorted man, all the slats are cock-eyed.

lol its running again
had a RAC bloke come out and start it, air in the system, some cold start spray and breaking the injectors off to release the air got it started
I know the dials are different i.e. rev's (not sure about the speedo but seems consistant, will be checking it on the satnav over the weekend) but the problem is, I want this to look as much as possibly like an s2 avant replica (even tho certain s2forum members don't like me doing it) hence why i've got the s2 dials. I got them seriously cheap compared to some sets and means I still have my spare set from my s2 coupe.
I did think about having a set made, i've already had problems with needles on the gauges so I think i'll leave this set as it is tbh, i'm the only one that drives it so I know where to rev it till.
The vent in the middle i've had to leave out till tommorow morning when I meet up with a friend to pick up some better vac pipe as the stuff that came with my original gauge is too weak when it gets hot and causes problems. I want to get hold of a proper plastic vent pod for the gauge just have not seen any come up yet.
I was hoping to spend some time on it over the last few days tidying it up but i've not been back in the swindon area plus i've been having problems with my back.
@andy - it will be end of the month when I come up, probably last weekend i'd have thought.
@jas - thanks for the comments, gives me a bit more motivation, its got a hell of a long way to go to look anything like sooty (a clean would be a start for mine )
I have been sorting out relaying the brakes down to me, currently they are somewhere between oxford and glostershire so will be making progress once I get them down to me then I can source the last few bits and get the wheels on. |

Not much different to standard tbh, its more there to get rid of the standard pipes so it looks a bit better, there is a slightly deeper tone at tickover but thats about it tbh, my friend said I might get a bit more noise if I remove the center box but tbh I think i'm going to wait till I get the quattro system fitted and have a full stainless made as it would change the route of the system.
One other thing that I remember last night, my car never came with the standard dials, it had a set for a convertible when I bought it as I was a bit confused when a light came on (where the pre-heat one is) to tell me the top was down on the car
drove the car home last night and back to my parents today and all's well again, cold starting is better now which is a bonus so i'm not sure if it had a bit of air in the system already |

[Note] This is a full autocheck/trip comp unit, not the minicheck/trip comp unit, BUT, they should be very similar with regards to the LCD display, if not identical.
Of course getting inside will be different, but easy enough with only screws to remove.

Thanks for the pictures jas, I had a look at the trip computer unit that came with my s2 dials (looks to have gone the same as yours) and as you say it does not take that long to strip one down and have a look.
I am getting a minicheck/trip computer one hopefully in a week or so's time when I go and collect it and I have a spare trip computer I can borrow the screen from for the time being.
I am hoping to tidy up the car when I start my time off from work on friday now that I can get into my lockup after the break in we had a while ago. Current plans atm is to tidy up whats been done so far, just the little bits really. I modded the center console to remove the cig lighter because I found when I used the sat nav in the car I kept knocking the cable out when changing gear, I will be moving the old lighter plug to the pocket under the steering column as there is a plug behind there already for this.
I don't smoke to I won't be using it that often, I did think about hard wiring in the sat nav plug but I use it in a few cars so it would not be practical for this. |

I hardwired an extra power plug (VAG sourced) into the passenger footwell to plug my sat-nav into for the same reasons.
Did it at the same time as I hardwired the 16pin OBD11 socket into the footwell a couple of years back..
Now the sav-nav mounts sucker sticks to the carbon dash panel and the lead plugs into the socket in to passenger footwell. No need to fart about messing with the centre console then. I have the rechargeable torch from Audi in the normal cig socket.

Yeah I remember seeing this picture once before when you put it up, nice solution having it down there, still i've already done the car now so its a bit late. Might sort this out on the s2 tho as i've just been given a mint spare dash to try something with
I was speaking to fitzy earlier who mentioned on his tdi avant with the same lowering kit as mine that on 17's his front arches rub, I hope that mine are not too bad once I get the 18's fitted. I've nearly got everything ordered and delivered to start doing the swap over to 5 studs now, just trying to find a good cheap source for the spacers as most that i've seen seem to be £100+ |
