Its never been stable at keeping temp since i have owned it if on auto , would often go cold after if on 22 degress etc after 20mins , low always worked on on air-con mode and manual was always fine
Now however there is no hot air at all no matter what temp it is set it on , it did have a slight spurt the other day bit nothing again
VAG com shows
01271 - Temp. Reg. Flap Motor (V68)
41-10 - Blocked or no voltage - Intermittent
Digging out the history of the car found that it has previouly was stuck on hot air only , that needed a new motor
V443 820 511 A - Motor at £78 and i think
and £114 labour
Dont really want to give the dealer 200 notes , anyone done this repair before ?? i have no idea where to start to pull the dash apart
Cheers
Cheers

Nice find, Had similar with a few but they often right themselves, the 96 auto AAT Avant I had would get stuck on hot or cold but if you left it in the opposing settings it would right its self after 10 mins of driving so I never got more Involved

I have made it a little better but in a word no i'm upto 41 mpg but still no kerma nozzles, I am convinced the actuall timing is out as I have had to advance the pump timing to 90 in vag com from 55 to get it starting a little better.

Not had chance to check yet my new tester doesn't fit in the glow plug holes it's to tight so need to take out the injectors, I didn't really want to do that until I had the nozzles to put back in.

Mine has come back to life but sort of tails off after about 30mins of driving
Did as you suggested bladerunner , left it on 22 and after a day or so it came back to life
I can live with that for now , but be interested to fix it one day

I have two climate heaterboxes here, one motor I'm keeping for a spare but if I can ever find the other one I'll let you know, heater was split up so it's been taken off, but I never sold it so it's lurking somewhere...

Aha...
here are all three motors, note the different part numbers and as far as I can tell this simply relates to the different connector, red, blue and black for the one you want. (images are links to full size versions)
I see no reason why they can't be used to fix each other. the retaining eyelets would need flippping in mounting housing, but simply push out..
options here are:-
1. Swap plug by cutting and joing the 5 wires (doesn't require disasembly of motor unit)
2. Swap out motor and or pot (requires disasembly of motor unit)
3. Send your faulty one to me and i'll fix it with said parts, (cost a bit more requires going to the post office)
the two here are tested working fine motor comutators look unworn,
£15 each inc postage, or send your old one to me for fixing for £25 inc return postage

I'm not selling the black one, read my previous post, I had a good look today and I can't find the other spare 443820511a I have somewhere, if I do I'll sell that but as said the others are only different in connector as far as I can tell so there are three options in my post above
You can repair with either the no letter code one or the B, or if you don't fancy the job I can do as mentioned it but I'd need your one with the correct connector first...

I had trouble with a similar motor under the scuttle panel on my old S4 a few years back, involved taking quite a lot of the car apart to get to.I was warned that i would almost certainly break the white plastic arm that attaches to the motor,he was right.Luckily i taken the advice and bought a spare from audi, think it was about £1.50

The arms on the motor seem strong enough I wouldn't bend them though, but the two other motors near the front of the heater box that do the distribution to the various vents have an additional long white arm, and i did break one getting the red and blue motors out. it seemed to snap with little force. An educated guess here but they look like they are made from a flexible nylon type material, but it has gone brittle with the heat of the heater over the years the waxyness in the plastic has been lost...
assuming it's not the one I broke I have a full spare set of levers / arms on a first come first serve basis..
btw if you view my first image in my earlier post the white arms on the back of all three motors are the same / unbroken, and when placed in the same position the arrow on the control pot is pointing to the same position

i will take the whte arms then , what the procedure to change them ?
I am guessing its remove the center console and the side panels , i did have a read of the haynes manual but it does not cover air-con models , but did find some guidelines in the trim section

Well there is no excuse for breaking the one you are taking off it's the front two that seem to be affected by the heat, anyhow I can't find the heat control one it's probably with the misplaced motor. I've had another good look and can't find either... no more time to search now.
I'll take some pics later but you do it under the bonnet between the a/c unit and the heater box above where the pipes go to the matrix. there is a cover 5 screws might be torx head, and you'll need the correct tools to get them undone as you will with the 3 motor screws. (Philips). The reason the black connector is a sealed type is it's outside in the windscreen drain area..
Once the motor is loose you have to carefully rotate it so the slot in the motor arm aligns with the slot in the white arm to remove, don't bend or force it. If you do it now you'll be able to move the heater flap to a position to give some heat and carefully jam it there with some cardboard or similar

..and if, (getting confused with all the arms ), you break the one on the motor, the one I'm sending you has an un damaged arm so you'll have a spare
