Not sure, she won't be taxed for Steve's Crieff meet and I think some want me to take the soot monster to Stanford Hall.
Me and the Bro have just planned the first blast out, can't wait Very Happy

Sooty looks lower than the S2 ??? ... obviously the mechanicals are a world apart but how would you compare the ride quality of the two cars ??? grip will be much better with the Quattro but i would be interested to hear your views

The TDi is lower, she's supposedly down 60mm over stock with spax springs, but I estimate it's closer to 80-90mm at the front for some reason.
I actually plan on lifting the front up a bit using stock S2 springs, so it matches the back better.

The two couldn't be further apart when it comes to handling.

The S2 is a firmer, more controlled ride, although the TDi isn't a shuggy boat by any means. The TDi is smooth enough on the motorway, but can crash a "little" over some deep ruts and pot holes. I don't mean CRASH, just a little rough sometimes.
None of that from the S2.

The S2 is stock ride height on Koni adjustable shocks (whereas my Bro's is 40mm down on H&R springs and Koni's)
S2's steering is more direct, has more feedback and if she starts to go, will understeer unless on the power where she can have a beautiful neutral slide.
The TDi understeers like a bitch, if you keep the power on she still pushes wide, let off and the back snaps round. When she does start to go, the steering goes all vague. I hate vague steering.

Worlds apart.

BUT, saying all that, I've grown to really like the old Soot monster. It's a really good car and I plan on keep her and the S2 for many years yet.
I have no urges for anything else..............well! apart from when I see B5 RS4's. But I'm not going there.

Maybe.................no

Love the three spoke sport airbag wheel in my S2, so much so, one now resides in the soot monster.

MASSIVE thanks to John (Smith_S2) for the wheel, stalks and cowling's.

A pretty involved job with a bit of head scratching. But as you guys will by now know, it'll take a bit more than this to stop me getting something not designed for the soot monster, to work. Well to at least fit, in this case the airbag will obviously never work.
I'm going to have to think about the write up for this, a few of the pictures were taken when I was off down a dead end.
I'll write it up tomorrow when I've got time to convert thoughts into words without it sounding like Swahili.

Looking good jas, was good seeing you sooty and oscar the other day, just wondering is that just for show or have you wired in some of the stuff so the airbag works?

Nah Pete, the airbag isn't wired up. Would fairly involved that. I'd need power pack, crash sensors and a controller, although I do have a spare controller (£800 new Shocked )

The indicators cancel, which was the hardest part and the horn also works fine Wink

I'll admit, it's for the looks. And the fact I again wanted the challenge of making it fit.

Jase..

Nice one Jas Wink So, in theory then, you could fit any wheel up to about m/y 2002??
What about the key hole in the new cowl? Could ignition be moved there as well?
Si.

In theory, yes mate I suppose you could.

You mean the hole visible in the lower cowl shown in the pic below?. That's not standard, it's been drilled in there by some previous owner for some reason. Maybe had an immobiliser of some description.
I've got a plan to utilise it Very Happy

It is Si, smooth plastic later cowl (as opposed to the earlier elephant hide effect) with a square indent to take the slip ring on the rear of the wheel.
Just someone has drilled a hole in it. Came with the wheel and stalks.

Gotcha, didn't realise they moved it later Wink
As far as I know, everything, wheel, stalks and both cowling's came from a 1995 S2 Avant and they are identical to the ones in my Coupe Smile

Just love these steering wheels. I "may" very carefully paint the chrome rings satin black, like they are on the RS2.
I ain't a chrome lover Very Happy

Oh, I'll also be swapping the S2 badge for an sport badge instead Cool

I think you should paint the rings black that would look even better. Cool

Fitting did not seem to difficult, I think Raymonds S2 was a later model (late1994) because when i tried fitting it to my S2(early1993) the connections for the lights, indicators, and wipers were all slightly different?

Looks brilliant Jase, whats next on the list for Sooty?

Nothing to report on the TDi front, it's been off the road since June while I enjoyed the S2.
S2 goes into hibernation next month, TDi going for MOT end of this month and I'll hack it over the winter.

I've had zero time to do anything for the last 6 months, so no grab handle light thingies fitted or anything else on either car.

Illuminated love handles...............sound kinky Wink
