Welcome back, being a Worksopian and knowing AB also (next door neighbours twice removed) its good to hear from someone at the hometown.

I used to cycle past your farm down past the 'Sand Hills' and the like, but that was way back, way, way back. But good to hear from you.

I'm not convinced about this "super" diesel stuff but will try this in the future just to rule out another potential cause.

Car is at the garage today, they will replace all vacuum hoses and N75 valve. Will see if it re-occurs after that

Mark, I stick to Bytbil rather than buying private.....I guess I feel at least a have a bit more of a comeback if there's a potential problem with a car purachase. Also, I will need to try to chop in the Rav4 as part of the deal!...Still can't believe how much I paid for a 9 year old car!....but there you go!

As for the ride on Sport editions....well, I suppose I will need to drive one for myself....I have been a passenger in many A4's but never driven one!. I look at the Honest John UK website for feedback on most cars and feednack on the B7's ( although diesels ) are less tha complimentary and they slag off the early B7's sport handling big time. Before I moved here I had a lovely 9-3 Aero on low profiles.....off motorways it was too noisey for me and when you hit a pothole.....Jaysus! Sorry to hear about your back issues.....I was lucky last year, I fell off my roof scraping the snow off and landed less than gracefully flat back on my altan making litle snow angels!hahaha.....fortunately, I never did any damage...I was lucky, more than lucky!

I am not in a hurry to buy......and it is a buyers market right now.....so am trying to be patient.....but need to think about off loading the Taliban motor before the July hols.

Cheers

The current tyres are Dunlop Sport maxx which are due for a change. The only bad points of this car are the unrefined engine sound at low revs, which is normal apparently and the high road noise. I realise that the worn (2-3mm) tyres contribute to this. I have been researching replacement rubber and everything points to either Goodyear Eagle Ass 2 , Michelin Pilot Sport 3 or Conti contact 5. Present sizes are 225/45 Z17. Any advice would be welcome. Love the car BTW.

Hi Steve, What did you buy then and did it sort out the road noise? I have the 3 Dr version of yours, the only tyres I've put on are Yokohama CF1s, they seem fine on the front. Any other A3 experiences to write about?

New member here, bought an '02 A3 1.9TDI Quattro on Saturday.. it is in good condition given its age, but there are a few niggles that my partner is now working on fixing!!

Apart from the drivers window not working (already found a how to on here - thank you!) I can't put the armrest back down. Got in the car to do the test drive and pushed the armrest out the way, didn't think anything of it!! Bough the car, got it home and my partner starts fiddling around trying to find things he can fix.. tries to put the armrest down and it won't budge

I've done a search on here, but couldn't find anything obvious which might fix the issue.. anyone got any bright ideas? The guy we bought it from said he just fiddled with something each time he got it stuck, but we want a long term fix, not just an interim one!
